How long did it take??? For your babies to get along together!? Gidget is 4 years old and she just doesn't like Chloe that much! We are going on two weeks since we got her and all she wants to do is play with Gidget! Gidget barks when she gets around her! I have seen Gidget sniffing her but as soon as Chloe comes toward her, she runs off! :( I know I probably should have gotten her sooner but it took me this long into talking my fiance into letting me get another one! :p Thanks to anyone who can offer any great advice!!! |
I have a 3 year old Female (Abbie). She is a snot... okay and a lil spoiled. I got a Yorki Poo female that was 5 months old (Sophie). Abbie didn't actually get along with Sophie till Thanksgiving or so.... Sophie will be 1 in Feb. And Abbie will actually be 3 in March... (close enough to say she is 3) so I would say about 4 to 4 1/2 months. Give it time. This may sound bad, but I think that what made them get along was the fact that They stayed together in a crate at times. I didn't ever seperate them. They had to like each other... now they are close. Abbie recently had pups and after they got a lil older she would let Sophie sniff and lick and play... Now Sophie lays on her side trying to be like Abbie with the pups. It is funny. Trust me . They will grow on each other. (well they should) They are just like humans - only in certain ways... there are some people we just don't like... same with them) GOOD LUCK! |
Yeah! give it a little more time. I am sure Abbie is used to being queen of the castle and all of the sudden her comes this new little girl. I am sure it will not take that much longer. |
Just give it time. Gidget needs to maintain status as alpha-dog. Soon enough he'll warm up to your new baby. I'm getting my new one next week (if all goes as planned) and I am expecting as much for Bouncer to be very stand-offish to her for quite awhile. Just make sure Gidget is getting equal amounts of love and you're not changing him from his past schedule too much. If there is something you and just Gidget would do, go off alone to do that with him. It could be that he also feels this little one is taking his place. Sometimes, you just have to reassure their little hearts that you still love them just as much as before your new baby came. |
Maya is almost 9 years old and i got Cali in August. Maya is not a real nice dog she is standoffish even with us and a bit snippy, which is why I waited so long to get another dog. Now 5 months later they are ok together. I would not leave then alone together but Maya has accepted the puppy a little more. They will still fight over a treat but as Cali settles down Maya will let her sit or kay next to her more. I'm hiping they will one day be able to be left alone together. |
Two weeks isn't really that long. It takes time, so hang in there. Gidget is just waiting to see if Chloe is there for a visit, or if she's a lifelong friend. Before long, I bet they will be best friends. :) :) :) |
It took Tink awhile to get used to chloe since we werent focusing all our attention on tink. My only suggestion is to make sure that you try to dote as much affection on gidget so she doesnt get upset. I never meant to neglect Tink whenever I got chloe, but as a puppy chloe required SO MUCH attention since she was so tiny and I think Tink just didnt like sharing me. We never had problems with the girls fighting but Tink just didnt want to have anything to do with chloe. But after a few weeks (i dont remember exactly how long) they started to play together and sleep together. So hang in there, Gidget will soon love chloe! |
give her time, ummm have you tried playing fetch, that usually breaks the cycle or running around outside with both of them chasing you, gives them a common interest YOU! |
You just have to be patient. I think she'll need some time to adjust to this very big change in her life. They'll come around. |
Yes, give it more time! Simon was 9months when I rescued Hallie (who was 2.5 at the time) and he LOVED her but she was a bit stand-offish and it took quite awhile for them to get along. They don't all the time and I really think that Simon tolerates her more (she's a snob) but occasionally I will catch them loving each other. Make sure you give each of them some alono mommy time, that worked for me in the beginning. |
Actually I guess I was lucky, Chloe and Lacey, 6 months apart got along fine. It's now they get snippy with one another, esp if a greenie is involved. |
Don't worry... Two weeks is nothing. They'll be buddies before you know it. I have a 4 yr old Eskie who wouldn't have anything to do with Dublin when I first brought him home. Then one day a couple of weeks after we got him, she and I were watching my husband teaching Dublin to fetch. All of a sudden a she got a funny look on her face and jumped down and started playing with them. It was like a lightbulb went off and she reailzed he could be fun!! Now they're good buds. When he gets on her nerves she just grouses at him and he leaves her alone. |
My pets (cats and dogs) over many years and many pets have taken no more than three weeks to a month to become fast friends. If they didn't become fast friends (a dog and cat) - they at least became very tolerant of one another and caused no problems whatsoever. Carol Jean |
i'm going on 3months with my baby and he absolutely hates my sisters dog (he's a pom) Gotta keep them separated at all times. Her Pom tries to tolerate my guy but he's always attacking him and biting him. Is there any chance of them becoming friends or will my yorkie never like him? |
I really lucked out, I got my male first, waited 6 months then got my female..well he went up to her, smelled her, looked at me and said"oh boy,a girl, just what I have been hoping for",took her toys, let her eat first, even though they have seperate bowls, and he has been a perfect gentleman, now that they have the baby, they are the cutest family, you can see the gender differances even in the way they take care of the little one ;) |
