I want to get the buddy belt for Gidget. Her adult wt will be around 4-5 lbs. Would I be safe in ordering a size 2.

The Buddy Belt is adjustable with the 5 holes on the belt, but it still has to be fitted to securely hold your pup. In other words, it isn't something the dog can grow into. My Max started in a size 3 as a puppy and wears a size 4 as an adult.

What is Gidget's chest measurement? Measure snugly, directly against her body without adding any room. I can tell you which size would fit her right now and how much room she would have to grow. How old is she?

Don't rely on weight. Some 5 pound dogs are longer and have a "skinny" chest, other dogs are shorter and have a larger chest. Chest measurement is most important.

Her chest measurement is 10. She was 4 months on the 21st of May.

Just finished looking at Susan Lanci harnesses. Can't get much "girlier" but they are all so pretty. I can just imagine Giget strutting down the street.

She would likely be a Size 2 right now and that would give her room to grow. Being so young, hard to say though if the Size 2 would be right when she reaches her adult size.

Thanks, Maximo. Think I'm going for the inexpensive harness right now. PLenty of time for buddy belt or Susan Lanci when Gidget is fully grown. Have you ever purchased a Susan Lanci and, if so, did you like it?

I have never used the Susan Lanci harness, but there are several people here who love them. They are very popular with Maltese owners. All of Susan Lanci designs are gorgeous and very well-made, high quality materials. The downsides are that the harnesses can be a challenge to get the right size, and are probably not the best choice for escape artists.

I bought a cheap step in hearness at pet smart for my pup who is 3 months old. For his first birthday I will get him a buddbelt. My other yorkie has 3 I love them and they are great quality. I like that they are adjustable so you can put it over clothes or just on them nakie.

Thanks for letting me know that you really like the buddy belt. My only concern is that they appear to be quite wide and my little Gidget is tiny. The pictures on the web look like they would overwhelm a small dog but if you like them I will definitely consider (again) the buddy belt. I'm going to PetSmart this week and get a cheaper one and will wait until she reaches her adult wt and get her a buddy belt.

Most of the photos for BBs in online stores are of Size 4. The smaller sizes are narrower. They are proportioned the same way any collar or harness would be for each dog size. Definitely not overwhelming on a smaller dog.

I don't think it's to bad maybe you can get some people to share pictures of theirs on there smaller dog? It might help.

This is so very true, the smaller the dog, the narrower the harness will be. Yazmin's 5 years old and weighs 5lbs. I love sharing photos of Yazmin's BB collection which has doubled in size since this photo! :D

Well........ Joeys cheap step in harness didn't work out as well as hoped. He would pull on his leash like most puppies but then cough so my mom decided to just spend the $25.00 and buy the buddy belt 2. If he grows out of it he grows out.

Attachment 409734I have an obsession with buying harnesses. I don't know why. I just do. And my absolute favorite of them all is the Ezy Dog quick fit. It's $24. It's light, it's comfortable. It fits well and none of my three try to gnaw through it. It goes low on their chest, no where near the neck, and it's super easy to put on . By far the easiest of any other harness. It doesn't cover a lot of area or make them hot or seem to mat their hair underneath. And they look really good too. I love this harness. Oh and Toby hasn't figured out how to back out of yet... That's the other awesome thing about it.

Thanks for the info. Much better deal and that way I could afford to get 2 different colors. My Gidget measures 9 1/2 around girth and is still in a 6" cat collar and hooked in first hole with room to spare. Gidget weigh 2.5 lbs now and at full adult weight should be 4 to 4.25lbs. Thinking Size 2 might be the size for her What so you think?
