7 month old Yorkie . 1 Attachment(s) Hi everyone, this is my 1st post so please be nice : ). I have a 7 month old Yorkie male and people often say to me " is he a cross breed?". He is 100% pedigree with papers, so I'm a little concerned. His colours are very light, his features are a little different than a standard Yorkie I see on pics. He is a lovely dog and we love him to bits, but it'd be nice to know what owners of Yorkies think instead of random owner's. Thanks in advance. |

Looks purebred yorkie to me, and darling too! |
So cute! What a sweet little love!!! Welcome to Yorkie talk! |
He looks very Mixed to me......if i seen this dog in a room with other dogs i would not say to myself that is a yorkie......however he is very very cute.......did you see the parents when you got him???.....i dont even know why i asked that question......my friend bought a yorkie from this couple who passed off someone else's dogs as the puppy's mom and dad......the dog grew up looking nothing like what she expected!!!!!........your dog has some yorkie in him but as far as 100% purebred......doesn't look like it at all |
Thanks for the replies. His mum and dad were there with the owner, the mother looked very similar but the father not so much. He has pedigree papers. Could he just be a different type? Today I saw a group of Yorkies, 3 of which were very similar and 1 not so much. Either way he is a beauty and he's ours : ) Just after people's opinions , thanks everyone. |
He's super cute either way! |
1 Attachment(s) He's very cute! I've dealt with, and still deal with, the same type of questions about my boy. But I've learned to not let it bug me. And I kinda embrace it a bit and just think he's unique and different. There's always going to be some genetic variance amongst dogs and sometimes they can have some physical features that don't necessarily match their parents. My boy is also a purebred with papers. His dad is a champion. And all throughout his pedigree is champions and names such as Durrers and Nicnaks, which I understand are fairly well-known names and probably in a lot of pedigrees. Despite that he has floppy ears, a muzzle that is considered a bit too long, he's oversize at 12 pounds, and has a coat that's not quite silk - it's more a modified coat. What's odd is that both his parents and his siblings are all half his size and look fairly different than him. It's weird how that works. My friends tell me I got the reject out of the litter. Lol. It's just genetics I guess. I've attached a picture of him at 8 months old. You can see he's quite different looking from many other yorkies; hence, all the "what's he mixed with?" questions. He's the nephew of my other yorkie, and when I tell people that, it just blows their mind that they're related cause she looks much more like a typical yorkie and so much different than him. So, just be aware that yorkies do come in different shapes and sizes and it doesn't necessarily mean that they're not purebred. |
The weight and size of a yorkie can play a huge factor in looks. My now passed girl weighed in at 17 lbs as an adult, not fat, she had a beautiful sleek body. She was tall and long. Because of her size she had a longer snout, many ppl TOLD me she was a silky lol, I always just LOVED that lol. She was AKC registered. Even my vet asked if she was a silky because of her size, my answer was always the same "she is AKC registered and papers say yorkie". Your boys markings and coloring beautiful, he is just adorable. Let ppl say what they want to, what matters is, you love him and he's YOUR perfect little boy. |
