sleepless nights A typical night at my house: Around 9ish bedtime. Hubs, me, Willie and Barney go to bed. Anna hangs out in the living room for door watching duty. Around midnight, Barney makes his first trip to look out the sliding glass doors. At 5 after midnight, Willie gets concerned about Barney and steps all over my face to go to the stairs so he can go check on his bud. At 12:30 Barney climbs stairs and gets back in bed, Willie can't seem to use them in the dark, so he sits and cries until I go and pick him up. Anna sits in the living room on door duty and growls at two boys for running around. 12:35 Once back in bed, Willie stomps all over my head and face until he gets back into his sleep spot and digs around for about 5 more minutes. Around 3:00, above routine is repeated. Around 4:30 Anna's door duty ends and she comes to bed. She won't use stairs in the dark either. So she growls until hubs puts her in bed. 5:00 time to get up. Hubs and I drag ourselves to kitchen, while 3 amigos relax in bed. How do I fix this? |
Oh my goodness. Put them all to bed @ the same time & shut the door. They will cuddle with you. |

Maybe try using night lights so they can see the stairs in the dark? |
Glow in the dark duck tape on the edges of the stairs works great. I don't know how you do it on so little sleep I too would put them in or out of the room and close the door. It will take a few more sleepless nights but in the end you will get more sleep. Hope it gets better for you soon. |
dog You are a true dog lover. Yorkies want to be by us so we let them in our bed. My old spud I take out to go pee at least twice during the night. If he sees Jojo he gets in a growling fight. No wonder we are tired but all for the love of a dog. I wish I knew the answer.my one friend has 6 yorkies . She and hub sleep in twin beds with a ramp across the bed so the dogs can choose who to sleep with. Alot of sacrifices come with having dogs but the blessings are great. No better faithful friend by your side except Jesus and a dog |
Bailey 10 weeks. 11:00 PM We put her in her crate. 2:30 AM. Potty trip, back to her crate. 6:00 AM Wake up, potty, eat, potty, play. 7:00 AM Back in crate unless wife is already up. Around 8ish my wife wakes up and she is out most of the day. My wife and I swap off the 2:30 potty every few nights. |

This is every night? You've redefined slave to Yorkies...haha... I'm guessing you don't work during the day? I only endured the sleepless nights during puppy potty training, but knowing/hoping it'd end after a couple/few months. I can't imagine how I'd handle this nightly when I have to get up at 6am to get ready for work. So, they don't sleep together? I dunno, I'd be tempted to be very strict and set them straight right now (like crate them or something and making sure they become super exhausted by your bedtime), rather suffer a few sleepless nights/weeks than to have no sleep for forever! |

Oh my! You are a brave soul. If mine pulled that all three of them would be in crates until they straightened themselves out. That said- crating might help a lot, then you could get some actual sleep!! |
I've been taking them out for a yard romp at 7ish each evening. Now that the time has changed and the weather has warmed up, it has helped. Barney will never be able to stay in bed all night. He is a very light sleeper and the slightest sound or movement makes him go running to check on things. If it was just him, it wouldn't be a big deal. He sleeps at the end of the bed and quietly leaves and returns. Willie, though, walks all over me every time he gets up. However, now that I make him run it off later in the evenings, he's too pooped to get up and follow Barney at night. Hoping this continues. Only got up once this morning at 4ish when Anna got off door duty. Well, I need to go take a nap to get ready for tonight:) |
What a loving dedicated mommy you are. My girls were a bit restless at night, they would walk on my face, chest, back lol, I loved them to much to correct them, and I LOVED the feel of their little feet walking on me lol. and I had to get up for work. My little rescue boy is just perfect, he sleeps all night, never gets off the bed, but he is big. 12 lbs and easily jumps off and on the bed. Sorry I have no suggestions, just LOVED your story and Anna on door patrol so cute and funny. |
