Simba coming home soon!
 

Hello. I am finally getting a yorkie!! He is a 2 months old puppy. I decided to name him Simba. I will be bringing home next Friday. I love him so much already and I cannot wait to have him around. I am only worried about leaving him home when I am at work. I read some threads here where people said that their babies did fine being home alone, which somehow reassures me.
My plan is to wake up a bit earlier than usual and take him out for a walk and let him play before I leave to the office then take him out again when I am home. During the day, he will have a lot of toys and enough food and water for the day. By the time he will be fully potty trained, I can even take him with me to the office. During the weekend or any free days, I will be with him full time. I can't wait for us to go on trips and long walks!!

Do you have any experience leaving your babies alone while you're at work? I would appreciate it if you share your experience and tips.

Whenever we left our alone when they were puppies, we kept them in a smaller confined area so they were safe; and they had food/water, pee pad, bed, couple toys.

Congradulations ! :animal36 I don't currently own a yorkie but I do have a beautiful Grand puppy. I hope to own one soon . I don't work so I am home and have time to spend. I have heard that you offer them a smaller area food, water, and potty pad maybe even something with your scent on it. Like a small baby receiving blanket. My son put a blanket he had on his bed , cut a small piece and put it in her bed when he went out. Maybe that will help as well. Best of luck with your new baby. :)

Many Yorkies have a tendency to have separation anxiety. They like to by near their human.

At such a young age being home alone, it's very likely that he'll develop separation anxiety if your absence is not slowly introduced. Since Simba will wanna pee whenever for now because he hasn't developed any bladder control, I'd set up an x-pen for him.

Within the x-pen, I'd cover it with pee pads and have a small crate with towels for him as a bed.

* Pee pads everywhere for now until you notice a pattern of where he usually pees; from there you can slowly remove the pee pads until you have one left over a span of a lot of time.

* It's always good to introduce crates to puppies when they're young so that when you travel with him later, he's used to the crate.

Make sure that from the first day he comes home, he associates good things with this x-pen - play with him inside, feed him inside, give him treats inside. Leave him every now and then for brief moments and come back to him only when he's quiet and not barking. Also, limit him to only the x-pen for the first month or so. Only slowly let him earn access to the rest of your house with time or you're guaranteed accidents.

Anyway, slowly increase the amount of time you're away from the x-pen but celebrate each time you're back (when he's quiet and not making any noise). You might want to take a couple/few days off work to slowly get him accustomed to you being away.

* Start with a few minutes / then half hour / an hour / couple hours / half day / full day.

Make sure you never go back to him when he is making any noise - whining, barking, etc. This will help him learn that when he's quiet, you'll be back. It'll save you a lot of headache from constant barking in the long-run. They learn really really fast!

You can also set up this cool app called PrescencePro to monitor him while you're away at work: Presence All you need is another phone or extra device like an ipad that uses Wifi and has a camera.

I have always heard trainers say not to make a big deal out of leaving so the pup gets kind of used to it and does not see it as a big deal.

The idea of starting out with little periods of time to start.

If you are anxious your pup,will pick up on that. Great that you will be able to take the pup to,work with you eventually.
