New Mommy Hi everyone, I will be a new mommy of a beautiful male Yorkie (Biscuit) on May 21st (12 wks old). I had to put my Jack Russell down last December - he was 16 and my best best best friend  . But now I'm excited about being Biscuits Mom. I need to get grooming supplies (shampoo, combs, brush, etc.) and I want to get the best product for this breed. I see a lot of great posts on this subject that I'm checking out but wanted to say "Hi" and I'm open to any advice you might want to offer. |
Hi and welcome! :) I'm so sorry about your loss in December - it's SO hard to lose our beloved fur babies like that. But, I'm glad you'll soon have a new wee one to fill your heart. Good for you for trying to get all prepared for your new pup! I like seeing that...bc these little ones are just fragile, young, little beings who need a lot of care at first in terms of keeping the safe and healthy. Things I'd recommend getting: -- Nutrical (give about 3x a day for first couple weeks or if hypoglycemic) -- Mustache comb (get from toplinepet.com - she is a member here) - this is what I use to brush their whole body; and it's great for mats -- claw clipper - use early so they get used to it -- harness so that you're not using a collar for walking -- stuffed big dog the same size as current Momma dog, for comfort -- the Iris Pen (Amazon or Walmart) for training / keeping safe -- ID tags from Boomerang tags if you want a basic type tag -- collar for ID tags (but not for walking!)...I like Cloe's Collars bc she makes them small and can make them xtra lightweight by using the ribbon only (no canvas): Custom Dog Collars and Cat Collars, harnesses and leashes/Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large -- get your Doggy ER Kit set up right away, see here. Off the top of my head, that's what I think of first. Best of luck and CONGRATS! |
@ Wylie's Mom This is a wonderful list! I am about to check out ever link provided :D. This was my first post and I really appreciate you taking the time to pull this together for me. I am so happy :aimeeyork, :aimeeyork |
I'm so very sorry for the loss of your Jack Russell, it's so hard losing our babies. They always hold such a dear and special place in our heart. Yorkies are truly amazing, wonderful breeds. They're unlike any other, that's for sure. So congratulations on your new pup and welcome to YT! |

Kind Words and a Warm Welcome Thank you all for your kind words and warm welcome to this site. I like it here already. Will be posting pictures soon - gathering the items for my ER kit and looking into insurance. :aimeeyork, :aimeeyork |

Congratulations on your baby Biscuit! Looking forward to photos. I second Wylie's Mom recommendation for grooming supplies from toplinepet.com Jenny is awesome. |
I strongly advise you to get a bottle of Health Extensions Nutra Drops....also still called some places as Dr.Millers Nutra Drops....it is a vitamine based supplement that they love, given for ANY stressful situation that results in hypoglycemia, as well as for pups that have an issue with low blood sugar episodes. This stuff is soooooo much better than that gooey, sticky, sugar bolt stuff that will only provide an immediate raise in blood sugar, then you have to feed them something within a short period of time to KEEP that sugar level up....the Pet Nutra Drops maintain their glucose level up....it is great to give before trips so they dont have a sugar drop during a long trip....some cant feed during trips, so it is great for that....it is great following vet visits, anytime they feel under the weather and just need a boost....and they love the stuff....and it is not the thick, sticky stuff that gets all in their hair, etc... The other thing is a book....."Yorkies For Dummies"....I recommend that book to all my new owners....it is a wealth of information and you will read it cover to cover, and still easily return to it for reference over the years! Congratulations on your new baby! |
Reading these posts were helpful for me to know what to expect! |
