Puppy Cut Do you keep your babies in a puppy cut? year around? only during the summer months? when should the first one be done?:) |
Puppy cut year round for several reasons but biggest being that it's just easier to maintain on a daily basis. For winter, if it gets chilly, I just put a sweater on them. :) |

I keep Cody in a puppy cut all year. 1- I like the look.... 2- Much easier to maintain.... 3-I LOVE to mush him up, ya can't do that when they are in full coat. I LOVE the feel of his hair when it's short. |
Pip has longer hair in the winter, pup cut in summer. Caleb used to have long hair in winter but no longer. Now we keep him in puppy cut all year round due to his allergies. |
One of my dogs has long hair year round. Her hair is straight and almost like human hair. The other one is kept in a puppy cut year round. His hair is cottony and somewhat curly. It easily tangles, and he hates to get brushed. I think it depends on the dog and your willingness to deal with the upkeep. Both ways are cute.:p |
We got a trim for ours when he was younger, and the groomer said to wait until 6 months for the full body cut to avoid stunting hair growth. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but that's what we are doing. |
I keep Mocha's head with long hair and cut the body short twice a year, summer to keep cool and winter to keep hair from matting in clothing. got the best of both looks ;) |

I decided that I wasn't very good at cutting, so I let him grow a full coat which he still has. Full coat by default. :D |

Cutting the hair at a young age does not stunt hair growth, if ya actually pulled alot of hair out from the roots or damaged the skin area, then maybe it's possible. Yorkie hair is alot like our hair, if the hair has issues then there's either an underlying issue (like health) or an outward one (matting, dryness, etc.). Granted I know grooming and cosmetology is different in alot of ways, but I would think that the hair follicles would essentially work in a similar manner, human or yorkie. If the hair was going to be stunted, it's gonna be stunted by other means, not from cutting the hair itself. But on the thread subject, lol I keep my girl's hair mostly short but in winter I'll let it grow out some. She get's hot fairly easy. |
