No bark command......not going so well I just put screens on my french doors so this means I can now leave those doors open. Duchess loves these doors as they allow her to sit and guard her home against any interlopers like squirrels, rabbits and of course other dogs. The problem is she goes crazy with barking win she spots the enemy. I live in a neighborhood where mostly everyone owns a dog. I've been trying to train her to stop barking when I say "no bark" but it doesn't appear to be working. I've tried all of the usual suggestions found on here but none appear to be working. Normally it takes Duchess only a few tries before she learns a new command but I think it is hard to get her to focus when she is going crazy barking at the neighborhood dogs. I started telling her no bark and then put her in the powder room for a few minutes. Well the little stinker starts barking in the powder room. I want to be able to leave the doors open but I don't want her barking to disturb the neighbors. Anyone got any other ideas? We both love having the doors open for the sun and the fresh air. I don't really use the AC unless we are in practically in a heat wave so these doors will probably be open for most of the summer. |
I was going nuts when Scottie was barking at every noise possible in our condo, whether it was the balcony door or the noises in the hallway. I tried using treats to teach her quiet. It didn't really work. Finally, to my surprise, the water bottle spray actually worked! Now...if someone has a trick to teach them to not bark at every single dog on the street during walks, that would be a gift. They bark at dogs across the street, a block away, just any dog they see in sight! I haven't yet brought out my water bottle during walks, I'm not sure if it'd help, but I might have to try that soon. I've become that crazy lady with the two crazy barking yorkies :( |
I use Bark Off by First Alert. It works for me. I also use it on the dog next door. |
Have you tried the Bark Genie yet...? Works wonders for some dogs, and it does not hurt them; our behaviorist at the shelter said the sound for dogs is like fingernails on a chalkboard for us...so it doesn't hurt, just irritates them and can stop them doing whatever they're doing. |
great suggestions thx. I am definitely going to try them. She loves sitting by those doors. I have her pillow and a nice little setup for her so that she is comfy barking at everything. :p |
Thanks Ann. It's Bark Genie not Bark Off. |
I got the bark genie and tried it on my two. Bella was always good till Lily came along this spring. Lily stops barking for 3 or 4 sec. and then keeps going and Bella starts shaking. So I don't know if it has solved my problem because I don't like seeing Bella get so upset. |
