Hi! New yorkie owner, I need HELP! Hi all, I picked up my yorkie on the 4th. 1st time owning a yorkie. She was born on my bday. That was a suprise. My boyfriend bought her for me due too bad medical issues last 3 years. My main concern is she is constantly eating her poo! I don't know what too do about this issue. ANY ADVICE GREATLY APPRECIATED! Breeder sent royal canin starter pack. And I bought puppy canned food and yorkie dry food. Same brand. Also breeder said too mix the Greek God's Honey Vanilla Yogurt with probiotics with her food. Been doing that. Giving her biljac training treats. And chicken breast as she loves it. Can't figure out how too post pics from my phone. File size always too big. Thank you all! God Bless! Myz |
A spoonful of pineapple in the morning and evening should help a lot!!! Also SEP (stop eating poop) worked well for my girls. I got it from Amazon. Good luck to you! |
Mine did that a couple times because i think she didn't want her area dirty. Mine uses a wee pad so i try to clean it up right away. I also noticed the only time she would go toward her poo was when she was confined to her area. Now she has a larger space and never goes near it when she goes. |
Thanks I will buy the sep onine and try it! She just got shots again yesterday with rabies vac. Vet said it's normal and some dogs do all their life. But he also sold 6mo expired flea pills for 50$ too my boyfriend. I'm returning them |
SEP worked great for us when Wylie was a pup. |
I have a 2 yr old male who will still eat his poop if I'm not diligen. SEP works for him as long as I am consistent. I give him crushed pineapple top with the SEP twice a day. It works. I also pick up right away after he poops. Good luck |
Teddy used to do the same thing, I was told it was because the food is low in digestible nutrients and is coming out basically the same way it went in. I switched foods and it never happened again. |

Thanks for all the responses! What type or brand of food do you all recommend? I want the best for my lil girl. |
Since I first got my Yorkie (he was 4 months old, now 11 months old) I have given him Health Extension Little Bites. I got it on Amazon.I am amazed at the good stuff it has as I am sort of a nutrition nut. These are small "nuggets" so to speak. I also have Blue Buffalo with Life Source Bits. These are Bigger "nuggets". Both brands are dry foods. My Yorkie likes both. His poop has always been good and I don't ever recall smelly poop (which, if it was smelly would indicate he was not digesting it) and of course he has never eaten his poop. Of course your milage may vary so to speak. And, here n there I would also cook some chicken for him or give him small pieces of vegetables. I stay away from that awful canned crap!. |
Thanks milosopher! I checked amazon and they do have some great brands. I also tried crushed pineapple 100 percent juice, no heavy syrup mixed with her dry food last night. First time she actually ate it. She loves chicken breast and liver too. My maintenance guy has 2 yorkies and his wife is a groomer here in town. They feed theirs food from refrigerator section in doggy isle at my local grocery store. Grain free and chicken n vegies. Can't remember name off hand |

But if you want a kibble, I recommend Natures Logic (the venison is awesome!), Natures Variety, Solid Gold (any grain free version), Wellness Core, Orijen/Acana... |
