Company for mealtime Does your Yorkie like to have company when he or she eats? Max and Teddy like to have someone close by when they eat their meals. When they finish, I have to rub their shoulders and sometimes hold them on my lap. I think they believe they are thanking me for their food this way. :) If I serve their food and leave the room, they are so disappointed! |
:D Yes, Harry needs company too! If I feed him and then dare to leave him, he'll stop eating immediately and follow me! I have to stand kind of leaning against the kitchen sink so I'm in his eye-line! And then I wipe his mouth and give him his treats - and then I'm allowed to go and get on....:D xx |
Yes, we noticed that all three of ours were only eating when we were near their food bowls. So, we moved the food bowls to our people space and now meal time is much happier. |
My now passed girls were like that, I had to be where they could see me lol. Cody lol, he doesn't care, he vacuums up his food so fast he's finished before I can leave lol. Silly pups. Ya just gotts love these little critters lol. |

I don't think my 4 mind either way, although I have to watch them diligently during meals bc some will try to steal from Marcel, who doesn't protect his food. |
Yes! Pippin will stop eating if I leave the room. Like me near. |
Piper likes to have a visual on me, but I can't just loll around in kitchen waiting for her to eat or she'll stop; if I appear to be busy (heck, I don't know), then she'll munch....But mainly, as long as she knows I'm not eating something better than what she has or she can see I'm not doing something fun, like playing with her flat squirrel without her...then she's pretty good. Though she never eats as much as I'd like--- |

Ours have to be near. Because Bella is on a special diet, we have to be careful not to cross feed. We would feed Bailey on the couch next to mama and Bella at her normal place. Still in the room, but about 10 feet away. Bella would never eat. So now we moved her bowl right next to the couch and she hoovers her food along with little sister. |
My two could care less if anyone was around but my darling sweet cat (rip) liked me to rub her back while she ate. |

Penny was a picky eater until I started giving her meals between us when we ate ours. I give her a tiny amount of wet food on a plate on the floor at each meal and she scarfs it down. Her dry is always out and she will come and get one of us when she wants to eat it. We stand by her and she eats. If we leave, so does she. I believe that classifies as spoiled but I don't mind. |

If I'm not watching Scottie eat, he won't eat. He'll turn his head around to check on me to make sure I'm watching too! Not that I have any kids, but it reminds me of how children in the playground needing their moms to watch them play lol... Casey won't eat unless he sees Scottie eating, and then will wanna start eating whatever he's eating. Ah....kids.... :D |
Yep!! My little one only likes to eat when i'm in the kitchen. Sometimes if i'm doing things around the house i feel bad and just take a time out and stand in the kitchen so the poor lil guy can eat. I guess he expects the same from me since he's always by my side when I eat  |
I guess he expects the same from me since he's always by my side when I eat. Ohmygosh, right??!! Just hilarious!!! |

Oh no. If I get too close to Toto he inhales the food in case anyone tries to take it away! I move away so he feels less threatened and eats slower. Uni is very moody when it comes to eating, esp breakfast. Sometimes I have to tease her and pretend I am going to eat her food if she doesn't. But then she goes in protective mode and growls. If I back away, sometimes she will eat. Other times she will "bury" with her nose. Other times she will just look at me and walk away, like "This old crap again? What a disappointment!". Then other times again, she will eat it all quickly! Like I said, she is moody. |

Maximo, as of now, Zeus does not -- especially if its the new baby, Perseus. They get along fine, but I think Zeus still has a problem with him eating his food, drinking his water, laying in his bed, and chewing on his little bacon bone. I'm hoping the sharing gets better as they go along. They will sleep beside each other in our laps, but I guess Zeus thinks that it is HIS bed. It's funny how half-brothers can be so different. Perseus could care less if Zeus eats his food and drinks his water, and of course, Zeus thinks he has to have some of Perseus's food! |

I wouldn't count on sharing of foods and treats. Edible items and toys are usually highest on the list for triggering fights for many dogs. Guarding of humans/attention round out the top three triggers. My boys would go to war over chews.:D |
I feed Momo on his cushion & the rest on the kitchen mat. I stand by the other 3 & supervise...otherwise, Momo will try to steal everyone's food. He's gotten a lot better now, he used to sneak run past me & steal Mimi's food. He doesn't do that anymore. I read somewhere that dogs snuggle next to you after eating, that means they're showing love & appreciation for you. After they eat, they all cuddle w/grandpa! Me, I'm stuck cleaning after them & doing dishes. LOL |
This is so interesting - love to hear about Yorkie behaviors and then how much alike they are. I thought it was just my Cali that acted that way. If I put her food down and leave she will not eat until I get back home. After she eats she wants up in my lap,to have her little full belly gently rubbed, then it is nap time. My previous Yorkie used to like to be held after eating also. Amazing critters aren't they :D And gee, we become so well trained don't we:rolleyes: |
Lol, right now my little furbaby seems to prefer if we hand feed her or bring it to her from the hand (like pour it in front of her). I'm thinking to change her feeding bowl cause it's a huge bowl for just her. I had originally bought it so that all three dogs, at the time, could eat from it and it was kept full so it was easy for everyone to eat from it. But now that the other two passed away, it's too big for her and we only put a small cup in there and the bowl always looks almost empty, so it may not be very comfortable for her to reach down to eat. I'm fine with the set's water bowl size as she could drink all the water she wants, but me thinks I'll have to change it up. Either way, she does seem more likely to eat if someone's around. Now if it's a chew treat that lasts a bit, she'll want no one messing with her and she'll go straight to my room into her cat cave bed lol. One time I had the door closed after giving her the treat and forgot I closed it until I heard her crying at the door with her chew treat in her mouth lol ^^;; She'll get mad and growl at other family members if they pet her (but she won't try to bite or anything), though I worry she'll try and choke on the treat cause she seems like she'll try to gobble it up faster. But she's usually ok when I pet her (as long as I don't try to take it from her) cause she knows I'm not likely to take her treat from her. |
