Will Not stop iching. Can anyone help me with this? My little Molly is 5 months old, I have had her to the Vet, and the Groomer, and she will not stop itching. She has had the flea pill, all her shots, and regularly groomed every two weeks. She is primarily scratching at her underbelly, jowls, and where the tail meets the body. Some days it is not to bad, other times she cant stop. thanks for your help. I never thought I would ever fall in love with an puppy, but my miss Molly has stolen my heart. |
Did the Vet not give you any Ideas what it could be. Sounds like allergies to something , maybe the fleas are gone but the allergies to them is staying around , have you changed anything her food maybe the shampoo you are using . |
thank you for reading my post The Vet said he could not find anything, no fleas, her skin was not really that dried. The groomer uses only hypoallergenic shampoo, the groomer did offer that she thought it might just be the time of year, with hot one day cold the next, might be upsetting her skin. The Vet had me give her Benadryl that did not do anything for it. |

Wall-e was itching like crazy a year ago. Tried changing his shampoo, adding flaxseed to his meals, but nothing helped. He had the same food since he was a puppy, but I decided to try something different. Sure enough we changed from Blue Buffalo to Wellness Core, and the itching craziness went away. |
Could be allergies, although it's EXTREMELY rare to see in this young of a pup bc of the immaturity of the immune system at this point. How did you give the Benadryl? Bc for Benadryl to even have a chance of being effective, you must give it every 4-6 hours throughout the day...bc it has such a short half-life; and you have to try that for a full 10 days prior to evaluating efficacy. What are you feeding? I would immediately try grain free if you don't have her on that already. I feed Primal or Natures Variety raw frozen; but if you want kibble I recommend Natures Logic, Natures Variety, Wellness Core, Solid Gold Barking At The Moon, Orijen/Acana. I would get a medicated shampoo, but do *not* use an oatmeal shampoo - it's a myth that these help the skin; they actually exacerbate it and Vet Derms will steer you away from those always. |
Yorkies have sensitive skin and itching is not uncommon. The reasons could be so many.. from the shampoo to the temperature of the water when you bathe your puppy. Don't use hair dryer and leave the coat to dry normally. Could be Allergy You said "Some days it is not to bad, other times she cant stop." Have you noticed any circumstances when it gets worse? After bathing, after eating something? Have you tried to change the food? Try giving only bottled water for а certain period of time. Trigger for allergy could be even different laundry detergents and cleaners. Be sure to rinse your clothes and there is no residual detergent on them. Be sure to rinse the shampoo carefully when you bathe your puppy. It is really hard to find the reason for such a problem but when you try different things you will start eliminating them one by one. Do you have soft or hard water at your house? Uni was very itchy for years and we could never find the cause. Sometimes it got pretty bad that she'd give herself scabs from scratching herself raw. The vet didn't think doing tests for allergies was a good idea bc the trials are expensive and long, and many times you find out it's environmental allergies to things you can't avoid, like grass or dust. We moved about two years ago. The new house has a water softener. Uni is about 99% itch free now. I hardly ever catch her itching now, and when she does, it's no where near as bad as before. Hard water really bothers my skin too, but I'm sure that was it for Uni. Most homes don't have soft water unless you have a softener, and if you do, make sure you keep the salt level up high enough. |
