Puppy in water..? Out of curiousity, do you wash & dry your puppy after they go in river/beach/pond/pool? I'd do it but I'm not sure if I'd be over drying their coat or something. |
1 Attachment(s) The couple of times I've given Piper a quick rinse, I towel dry her as best I can, then she runs around house like a little, lightning, lunatic, non-stop, bouncing off the furniture, little butt tucked up under her little self and this process aids in the overall drying...! That's our method! |
If you take your pup to a pool I would wash him, there is chlorine added to pool water, years ago I read chlorine is not good for furbabies hair or skin and and should be bathed afterwards. BEACH if it's salt water, salt dries skin also bath afterwards to remove salt. Lakes and ponds, depends on the water quality, example: my now passed pups would swim in a lake that had a sandy beach, water was clean / clear, no bath needed, sometimes they would swim in an area that had muddy ground, their paddling around would stir up the mud, I washed them to remove any mud that could have gotten on them. Last summer I took Cody to a state park lake, the water had a lot of silk and very murky bottom which stirred up a lot of slimy water. He got a GOOD bath when we came home. I use HyLyt shampoo and conditioner recommended to me by my vet due to Cody's allergies, you can bathe dogs everyday causing no damage to skin. Always better to be safe then sorry and bathe after swimming in any kind of water providing you use a good quality non skin drying shampoo. |

i kept coming across all these posts on Facebook about puppies getting in mud or enjoying their little swimming session in beach or pond and... i wasn't sure what i was going to do if my puppies did that.. lol [quick update: nami and i are in hawaii now, just got here yesterday.. and we are thinking of taking her to beach and see how she does :) she met my family for the first time, but she was so excited to see my whole family! she's usually shy, so i wasn't expecting this at all.. lol my family is loving her to death too lol. i'm so glad she's doing well. she even went on a 3 mile walk around her house, around extinct volcano crater and she loved it!!!] anyways... :) thank you guys for your response.. but when you say *quick rinse* is that with shampoo and all... or just water? i knew that pool messes with chlorine, but i wondered what other people with dogs do, if they take dogs to pools daily lol but i didn't know that salt in sea water messes with their skin too? o.o hair wise, does it get all matted since it gets wet, and they don't get a rinse or bath till later? |
We always do a quick rinse, no matter the type of water. We used to go to parks that had ponds or streams in them. Uni loves to splash in the water (and drink the water too! but we try to stop her). After she gets out, her wet feet pick up a lot of dirt and stuff so we rinse her and carry her back to the car. Or else we will do a rinse once we get home. If it's summer and very hot we don't blow dry, just towel dry. If it's kind of cold when I will usually blow dry to keep them warm, but don't use too hot of a setting bc it can burn them or cause dryness. |
