Good Breeder in Norcal Recommendations/Advice for Potential New Owner Hi All - I have never owned a dog before. I am very interested in buying a Yorkie and have been for many years (preferably a smaller one). I live in the San Francisco area and would love if anyone could provide some recommendations for good local breeders near me. I know a lot of people try to scam and I want to avoid this. Also, I will be starting a new job in September and will be working very long hours often likely from (9am to 10pm). I was wondering if there was anyway I could leave the dog alone for this long a period of time? If not, I may need to enlist some help in taking care of it. Thank you! I look forward to the feedback :) |
Perhaps before doing anything else, you should volunteer at an animal shelter. Pets, especially dogs and especially Yorkies, are a huge responsibility and require work, dedication, consistency, training, and time. Since you've never owned a dog, I think spending time caring for and learning about dogs in general would be very beneficial and enlightening. Also, you'd be around people who have a wealth of knowledge and personal experiences to share. I think you'd find working in a shelter before getting any canine would be invaluable! Long periods away from a dog is difficult on any dog, but again, Yorkies are exceptional and need close, human contact---the more of it the better; it's really not fair to get any animal only to regularly leave it alone for long periods of time---and a Yorkie would be miserable. I think it's great you came to this site for help and I'm sure you'll get a wide variety of opinions and excellent advice from the intelligent and caring people here...! |
