New Brother for Zeus We are getting another Yorkie from the same man we got Zeus from. Once again, he's the last Yorkie the man has. We tried a Shih Tzu puppy last year, and that did not go well at all. He was already bigger than Zeus at 12 weeks old and was overly playful to the point of hurting Zeus. We had to get him back to the seller, who had made the agreement to see how it went with Zeus. I'm afraid Zeus has that "only dog" attitude; similar to my teenage son who loves being an only child. We are really hoping this works out, because we want Zeusy to have someone with him when we are not home. Any thoughts or suggestions? |
I am a mom to 4 human sons and I bet your teenage son would have loved siblings if he had grown up with them around... most children are usually very accepting of siblings. Hopefully your dog will get used to having a pal around, but it does seem often it is a big adjustment. From my other yorkie friends, I have heard slow introductions are best and keeping the puppy in a play pen or xpen in the beginning is often helpful. I haven't brought my little guy home yet for ella (that will be in May), but I will definitely be taking the advice of other YT members. When you brought the dog home last year, how did Zeus act? |

lovestiny, Zeusy hated him. I'm not sure if that was another dog being there, or the fact that the dog was bullying him (i.e., knocking him down, making him run from him, running him against the furniture [all of this due to the puppy being bigger -- I don't believe it was intentional]). It was a disaster nonetheless. My neighbors have Zeusy's nephew, and they play together well at our house. Yorkiemom1, my husband is convinced Zeusy is lonely. I would be happy with the status quo, but I'm being outvoted. My son hates that Zeusy is "my dog," so the two of them outvoted me. Hope it is the right decision. Thanks for your input.:) |
I hope Zeus does fine... Then your son n hubby can share the new baby! Keep us posted. |
1 Attachment(s) Okay, we brought the puppy home last night. Zeus does not hate him!:) He is actually quite fascinated with him. This puppy is different than the Shih Tzu. He is smaller than Zeus and doesn't hurt him when playing. Maybe Zeus will show him he's the king!:) We named him Perseus. |
What a doll and I LOve the names!!! Yay Zeus! |
cute puppy and i love the names! zeus and perseous. :D i love greek mythology <3 |
OMG he is just adorable, who wouldn't be fascinated with such a lil cutie. Nothing to fear from tiny Perseus, I am sure Zeus will bond with baby Perseus and be BFF. PLEASE keep us posted on Zeus and the new kid, I LOVE hearing how only child accepts a new kid. I had a 3 pack, I never had an acceptance issue, my older one / ones would jump on the sofa if the new kid got to nippy. Congrats, and let the fun begin. |
Thank you, everyone! My husband has set up the ex-pen for Percy, and he is very content. Now on to pad training. Zeusy is watching Percy chase a ball in his ex-pen. I forgot how tiny Zeusy was when we got him. This brings back memories. I'm hoping Zeusy will be okay for now as long as Percy doesn't overtake his mommy -- and I'm not going to let that happen!:) |
Such a little cutie! |
how old is he? how big is he? he is just darling!!! |
He is 9 weeks old (don't get me started), but mama stopped feeding the babies. He weighs 2.5 lbs and went to our vet today for a checkup (he went to the breeder's vet on Monday, but we have trust issues with vets after Zeus's LCP Disease snafu). Our vet said he is doing well but had only been dewormed at the other vet for roundworm and hookworm, so she gave him tapeworm medicine and scheduled him for his next vaccine appointment. Other than that, he is doing well. He is a hearty eater. I just purchased insurance for Zeus, so I will be adding Perseus to the policy. |
keep the pics and updates coming ;) enjoy!! |
Percy is adorable! Happy to hear Zeus is getting along with him. You are going to have your hands full for awhile with puppy mania. :D Enjoy! |
