Help me I have 4 yorkies Kelli 2 1/2..4 lbs Sadie 1 1/2 ..5 lbs Chanelle 10 months...9 lbs Bailey Boy 9 months .5 lbs Problem.. Chanelle just started not liking Kelli She stalks her..circles her Watches hr e and even attaches her.. Kelli won't fight back She just lays down, she now hides and afraid... HELP |
Are they both fixed? |
Same sex aggression is pretty common. ESPECIALLY with intact bitches. If they are not fixed, that very well may be exactly what is happening. I don't have enough personal knowledge to advise on this situation, so someone with more experience should be able to help shortly. |

Same thing goes with intact males, when there is a bitch in heat on the property...they will fight to the death.... You must be Kelli's protector...do not leave her with the others alone....they will kill her....the initial aggressor will start it, and then when she goes down, it is ALL ON!!! |
Help me Kelli is fixed..Chanelle is not.. I really don't understand.. Terry |
Help Me Will they get better? Or will I always need to separate them? Terry |
Once they start to fight, it does NOT get better.....especially if one cowers and submits, it gets worse....they will kill her.....or severely injure her.....do not EVER leave them alone together, in a situation where you can not get to them and immediately pull them apart. I am not sure spaying the aggressor even now, will help....once they realize they are the "HMFIC" (Alpha, in charge), they do not back down and give that position up to a subordinate. |
Intact dogs are known as "bitches" for a very good reason...that is what they are, in any species! They will always fight for dominance in the pack...you always have an Alpha dog....she runs the show, and when dogs start coming into heat, you have MAJOR issues....it is actually a dangerous situation for all the dogs. You can NEVER let your guard down, trust NO ONE....you will end up with a submissive dog savaged by the pack....or vicious fights between in heat females....and once it has started and been established in THEIR minds, you can not change that.... How old did you say that intact female is??? If you are thinking about starting a breeding program, this is just one more issue you must be thoroughly knowledgable about or you will have a "dog fighting ring" going on, and you WILL have dogs killed. |
This is a serious matter Unless something changes very quickly before this becomes a set pattern of behavior chances are that Channel will become more and more aggressive towards Kelli. I would strongly recommend spaying Channel to remove hormonal issues while it is still just a "dislike" issue. Please don't wait until the matter becomes one of life and death. I lived in a "gated community" within my own home for several years because of my own ignorance and two intact females. There is no doubt in my mind that the two bitches would have fought to the death if the gates didn't separate them. I finally spayed one and placed her with my DIL. I wound up spaying the and placing the other because the fighting behavior was so firmly engrained that both my trainer and vet recommended that the best option was for her to be in an "only dog" home. She is now living happily as an only furkid fur princess. |
Oh wow...thank you for all the advice.. So do you think spaying Chanelle will stop her? Why doesn't she act this way toward Sadie...Sadie is also fixed.. |
Sometimes dogs just pick one they don't like. We don't know why, but they do. It may help. It may not, too, so be prepared for that. Sometimes SSA is very ingrained behavior that is hard or even impossible to get rid of. |

Has Chanelle had her first heat? Often females get very moody and more aggressive before a heat cycle. Spaying her should help some but there is no guarantee since the bad behavior has already started. You should keep her separated from Kelli but don't be surprised if she then turns her aggression on Sadie. Because of Chanelle's size I would be greatly concerned about her hurting Kelli. |
Chanelle had her first heat cycle about 7 weeks ago. It's sure sounding like I'm going to have to get rid of her, and I sure do hate doing that..but i can't risk Kelli's safety |
