any newer yorkie parents dealt with relentless biting? 1 Attachment(s) So Harley is doing really well. next vet visit in a week! introduced him to my sisters jack russell mix yesterday and they played great! heres my reason for posting, ALL HE WANTS TO DO IS BITE lol. How long do we chalk it up to teething? we continue to say no, and replace our fingers with a toy and its not a huge deal yet b.c hes still very young, just really asking at what point should i consider it something more serious that we need to focus on or get help for. Harley is a cutie. :) How old is he? When Max was a pup, he liked to bite my toes in the morning. When he would do this, I would say "no bite" and put him back in his xpen while I brushed my teeth. He learned that if he wanted his freedom, he couldn't nibble my toes. When we played on the floor, if he bit, I would say no bite and take my hands away. If he continued to bite, I would get up and walk away. You can also yelp like a puppy when he bites or say ouch! Max was teething up to 6 months when he was neutered and had the remainder of his puppy teeth removed. He learned bite inhibition long before that. My dad used to let him gently chew on his fingers to alleviate the teething pain. I think there is a difference between the desire to chew and to bite. Hang in there and keep working on it! |
I should add that we never corrected him in an angry manner, always an "uh uh uh" matter of fact kind of way, or an ouch! way. :) |
We are going through some of this to I also think there is a difference between I want to bite you because you are doing something I don't like and my teeth hurt and I need to chew . Lily our new baby was doing both Bella her big sister never did this. So with help from our breeder, if she was angry and tried to bit me I would hold her muzzle firm but not to firm till she calmed down and said no bite ( I mean she was very angry ) I only had to do it twice and I haven't had it happen again but time will tell. Lily was 13 week when we brought her home and she is 18 now. |
When Mocha was a puppy and started to bite, his trainer told me to say ouch in a high pitch voice like puppy. That's how they learn while playing with other puppies. Worked like a charm. You can also pick up a piece do his skin at the back of his neck and shake left to right. Mommy dogs pick up puppies with their mouth at the back of neck and shake them gently when they misbehave. |
omg... yes. Hey everyone I am new here and this is my first post. But the biting/nipping issue is one of the reasons I found this site. I have a 15 week old male and he bites me relentlessly. I am putting it off to teething, getting my hand mixed up with a toy, etc. He bites my feet when I leave the room without taking him. I have tried the stern No, tch, yelp, treats in hand, etc, all the stuff I have read to do. No luck. He does not bite my husband who is more alpha sounding. Appreciate any and all recommendations to try. |
he just hit 11 weeks 2 days ago! Thanks for the replies guys... i guess we're doing everything right.. just gotta be patient. any recommendations on some bone toys? i think he would really enjoy some kind of bone with a taste to it but ive heard bad things about the rawhide ones... we got him 2 nylabone toys but he has since lost interest... like almost everything else lol. Brand and size recommendations?? |

Thanks canana! we actually have the first one of those toys you posted, and will try to go get more plush small ones pretty soon. All in all he's pretty good... just wants constant attention which is understandable. lol. |
