Day adventure with my Yorkie Hi all!! So I have a bit of time off work for Easter, and on Saturday, I'm thinking about taking a daytrip. I just got back from Disney World a few weeks ago (solo trip, just me and only me!) but want to do something fun with my Yorkie! Either overnight or just the day! I'm from Pittsburgh, PA, and Lake Erie is about a 3 hour drive. I was thinking about going there to an unguarded beach, but read about how long grass can have ticks and cause Lymes Disease. So i have a few questions: 1) Is there anyway to know where ticks will be? If I carry him over to the beachy area or keep him in his stroller, can anything still get on him? Are beaches/lake areas not a good idea for dogs? I definintely won't go if this is a concern at all. 2) Any other suggestions for a day trip with my dog? It's going to be in the mid 60's on Saturday, so we won't be swimming, but some adventure (or really any dog friendly thing to do) would be fun for us. |
I would suggest a heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative. Make sure to check your pup after your visit at the beach and the grass. We do lots of trips with our yorkies and they love the beach. I'm not from the area that you will be visiting, so I will leave the trip suggestions up to the locals. |
I never go any place, but one year we did go to a beach house that my cousins boss owned...he has dogs and said I cpould take mine with no problem, so we loaded up for a week vacation at the beach....we had a freakin ball!!! His property was fenced in around the bottom of his beach house, and out onto the sand at the back of the house....my dogs had an absolute ball.....but let me tell you, they got into TINY little balls of stickers....OMG!!!! I had a horrible time trying to get those stickers out of all that hair....impossible, so I ended up shaving them all down....which was the initial start of a new custom around here! Now everyone has shaved coats.....no long flowing hair to pick up everything in the yard! I said all that, just to say, watch out for those tiny little balls of stickers, if you have them where you are going! |
