So another update. ..she does not want eat or drink ..will not eat her kibble even with the Dr.Millers on it, so yesterday every 2 hrs i was putting a half of a spoon of soft food and taking little by little and putting it in her mouth on her tongue to make her eat also putting water in a syringe and making her drink!!! I called the vet I have at appointment at 6:30 tonight just to make sure she is doing okay and not dehydrating making sure I'm feeding her enough or maybe too much I have no idea!!!uuugg I tried the parmesan cheese on her kibble she tried it maybe ate a piece or two and then eat no more.

I hate to ask, but has she been tested for liver shunt yet...? How old is she again right now?

has not been tested for anything and she turned 13weeks Tuesday. She only weighs 1.2.2 lbs

I'm worried that me force feeding her has given her a belly ache now. .how often should I be making her eat..the last thing I want to do is make things worse!!!

Have you tried Caesars soft food the pate kind not the vegie kind. I know its not a top food but its what I got Bella to eat when she wouldn't eat anything else. My breeder calls it crack for yorkies LOL.

Why...is she bloated?

The amounts of times for feedings depends upon how much you can get in her at each feeding. Ideally, you'd feed her about 4x per day right now. So if you take the total amount she should get for the day and divide that by 4, that's the amount you'd want to give at each of the 4 feedings. If you can't get enough food in her at each feeding, then you'd have to go to 6 feedings.

Severe inappetance in puppies can mean something is truly, truly wrong / going on. Remember, that 98% of dogs LOVE to eat, they just do. That's why inappetance is such a major sign of an illness in a dog.

In yorkie puppies, severe inappetance can often mean a liver shunt. If this inappetance continues, if it were me I'd be soon testing her for shunt bc if you don't and she has it, it will cause mighty damage to her...including to her brain.

She was eating fine until after low sugar aattack and had to take her to vet... today is only a week that I have gotten her and thete has been a lot of changes in her little life... I definitely think that I might have over fefeedings I was feeding about a quarter of a spoon of soft food every 2 hours..i feed her at 430,730,then 1030, I think it was too much..poor girl I'm trying to make her better then give her a belly ache. ..cant wait till 630 so dr can tell me...I give her water in a syringe after she was done eating...so when do u think I should try to get her to eat again and give her more water..

My cousin feeds her dogs this brand and they LOVE it.....never had a recall that I could find (and I looked when I found out this was what my cousin was feeding!) so that is saying more for it than some "top, highly recommended" brands!!

I am concerned this pup is almost 14 weeks old, and she is so tiny....a tad over 1 lb? Make sure you are giving her the Dr.Millers...that is the sugar formula she is living off of at this point in time....this is what will keep her from ending up with hypoglycemia again....and then just feed the baby food from your finger, hopefully she is licking that off your finger still.....I can not imagine her not even drinking water....I would be on the phone with that "breeder" that sold you that pup.....especially if this is all symptomatic of a more severe issue....the breeder should be ashamed of herself letting a baby that tiny go to someone that has no experience with yorkies that tiny....having seizure from hypoglycemia, and now wont eat! This is too much for you! You need to contact that breeder and let her know what all has gone south with this baby.....and start saving your money for vet bills! This is EXACTLY why breeders should (and reputable breeders usually do) keep their babies until at LEAST 12 weeks old....if you are telling me you got this baby at 12 weeks and she immediately had an issue with hypoglycemia, this is an issue the breeder should have been aware of..... and now you have a sick baby that will not eat, will not drink, and you are spinning is a thousand different circles, trying to keep this baby alive. You need to contact that breeder and tell her what is happening!!! She needs to be helping you!!! This is a baby of hers!! She should be every bit as concerned about this enfant as you are, if not more....this is a product of HER breeding program!!! Call her and get her actively involved in this train wreck!!! SHE OWES YOU AND HER BABY AT LEAST THAT MUCH!!!

Wylie's mom and every one on this board who gives you advice know their stuff backwards and forwards. They have been invaluable to me with my baby, too. I have owned dogs, but yorkies are different- and you just don't get it until you have one.

That said, my little Chewie is TINY. Very tiny little lady. Even with all of that, and the other dogs most definitely taking her food from her (based on how she eats at home, like we will take her food.. she walks away from us to eat) Even at all that, when we got her at 13 weeks and four days, she was almost 2.5 pounds. and, in the month since she's been here, she's packed on another pound. Even when my little Tee Tee's tummy is bubbling, she'll beg and beg for more food. She scarfs down food like she's at an Olympic champion eating competition.

However, when she was home the first 3 days, had I not taken her to the vet the very next day, we might have had issues, as she wasn't wanting to eat really. Even with a minor infection in the eyes she wasn't really hungry. That's why I am chiming in, not knowing nearly as much as these women do. Up until the shot incident, what I knew could fit into a small shoe.

Your little darling is getting the VERY best care from you. I'm rooting for you and her!!!

That is NOT too much food for a healthy, thriving baby!!! Unless you are using a soup spoon! That baby should be easily digesting 1/4 of a teaspoon, even 1/4 tablespoon, every 2 hours.....that is just a dab of food! I have had tiny 16 week old babies eat 1cc/per 1oz body weight on several occasions....a 1 pound baby would/should easily be able to tolerate 10-16cc of baby food or puppy mush, every 6 hours, which is a lot larger amount than you are giving this 1 lb baby....you are giving much smaller amounts at more frequent intervals, which is great for this tiny baby.... and in addition, you are having to give this baby water by syringe????!!!! You need to get a hold of that breeder for help before you loose this enfant!!!! This is way too much for you to address all alone!!!

Great advice here. My breeder had contacted me after a week to ask me how I was doing. I was lucky Scottie was pretty healthy. But if I had any issues whatsoever, I'd be telling them about it on a regular basis; my breeders requested it.

If you're having issues within a week of getting her, your breeder should be really concerned and be helping you.

If Wylie's Mom is concerned with liver shunt (knowing how she's incredibly knowledgeable), you should really look into getting Layla tested. Preventative measures are always better than reactive measures!

Please take both Yorkiemom1 and Wylie's Mom's advice; they're the true experts. Really hope lil Layla's eating/drinking situation improves very soon...

I hope Layla is okay! My Roxie wasn't eating or drinking either. I had to syringe her every 2 hours with Urgent care food mixed with water. I had contacted my breeder to let her know and she has been in contact with me at least twice a day. My breeder told me I could bring her back so she could monitor her, but the Vet said she felt she would be better off with me at home. It has been so hard and scary, but Roxie is okay now. I am praying for Layla! They are just so precious!

I wholeheartedly agree! what a 1lb baby placed with an inexperience owner - gawd help me.

My Razzman was placed at 12wks but weighed 2 and a bit pounds. Even still my breeder called me the next morning around 11am or so - upset that I had not contacted her about how Razzle did overnight. I was a tad taken aback as I am a very experienced dog owner - but was quite a bit shocked about how small a Yorkie puppy is. He ate like a truck driver that night -met the rest of our pack and did very well. No whining or crying overnight - he slept in our bedroom with our pack of course in a crate for his safety. I apologized to my breeder and said he has had 2 walks this morn and 2 feedings and eats like a trooper - drinking well too. Our pack has accepted him and he already feels quite at home here. His vet check up was already prebooked for the next day. I had never owned a Yorkie before and my exposure to them was basically adult Yorkies with us in obedience training. My breeder had gone over how much to feed him at each interval and how she wanted a small saucer as that was what he was used to eating from I guess She sent me home with food toys and a pack blankie for him :-) I can not tell you how both hubby and I were so scared to have something so small in our home. 2lbs is basically what a 3wk old BRT weighs! Which is fine when you are raising the breed you raise - but gosh a little concerning when you have this wee thing in your large dog home....

I guess my point is unless and until you own a toy breed you do not really understand how vulnerable they can be when young!

BTW my boy had already been tested for Liver shunt prior to placement but nevertheless on my vet visit I did a full bloodpanel work up including BATS which is bile acid testing.
