Has anyone heard of the Yellow Dog Project
 

I came across this today and found it interesting:

Basically it's a movement to tie a yellow ribbon on a dog's leash who have issues of fear; pain from recent surgery; are a rescue or shelter dog who has not yet had sufficient training or mastered obedience; are in training for work or service; are in service; or other reasons specific to the dog

Sounds like a neat idea. It's the first time I've heard of this, so just wondering if it's utilized elsewhere...

I've heard of it, but never seen a leash with a ribbon on it. I think harnesses with velcro patches that state some of those things is becoming common.

A bit OT, but for decades this approach has been used in the horse community. If you see a horse with a red ribbon in his tail, that means they tend to kick, etc.... https://answers.yahoo.com/question/i...2184259AAsO6XU

I have heard of it but did not try the ribbon. I buy the CAUTION tape from Dollar Store and stick it on the leash lol. It works!

I've heard of it through FB. Also have never seen it used before. Would be a good idea for Toto. He tends to try and start fights, esp when on his leash. At dog parks off leash he's about 50/50 but getting better.

I have been going to Camp Dogwood in Wisconsin for the past 2 years. They have an open meeting for all campers and the first thing they ask is that you tie a yellow ribbon on your dog's leash if your dog is reactive to other dogs. That is the first time I heard of this.

Ive never done this but definitely going to start. Capone's not very friendly on the leash. If a big dog starts walking towards me I pick him up and he starts spazzing out and making HORRIBLE noises, like he's possessed.

I wonder how we could help spread the word? Because it's very true if no one knows what the yellow ribbon means. On the other hand, it might get a little out of hand and every dog ends up having a yellow ribbon lol

Scottie is also not friendly on the leash. I have to pick him up every time we walk by a dog, big or small, on a normal-width sidewalk; otherwise, he goes crazy. If there's a dog across the street, I try to time it so that he's behind cars or shrubs so he can't see :rolleyes:

The yellow ribbon is an excellent idea. Ever since Monty got attacked, I am far more selective on who I let him greet up close and personal. If a dog seems unfriendly, I will pick Monty up if the owner doesn't reel him/her in. If we come upon people with their happy wiggly friendly dogs on leashes, I ask out loud if their dog is friendly. It's my way of letting them know that I expect them to be paying attention to their pup and together we can make sure our babies have a good experience.

I am actually quite shocked at how many people - with friendly looking dogs - say that their dog is actually not that friendly, or can be ornery or whatever. And yet have the dog walking freely at the end of the leash up to my dog. Eeps! Monty does an "air" hello.

Some people let their dogs come running up to Monty all by themselves without even checking and I have to pull Monty back because ... well I just don't know the dog!

If I saw a yellow ribbon, I would simply know that this is one that doesn't get a physical meet and greet (in training, service, not friendly ...) and so from a distance can already begin preparing Monty for a "air" hello.
