Tips on over stimulation? I don't want her to get to that point. I figured out when she was running and digging, then barking at my daughter that she was WAY over stimulated. Her little heart was beating a mile a minute, too. Right now the poor little gal's eyes are drooping. I've looked before asking but probably not looking or using terms correctly. I'm guessing with her it's the digging, but, I might see some other cues in the future. What I want to know is, when it gets to that point, is a time out the only way? Asking her to calm helped, and holding her close helped, but it didn't do the trick completely. Crate time out? And, if there are threads on this, I'd love to know where, and I'd be more than happy to read them. |
Is she a young puppy? When Barney was little he would get the zoomies and look like a wild thing until he nearly passed out from exhaustion. He's 3 now and I still take him out for about 30 minutes in the evenings so he can "run it off." If she has a lot of energy, you may want to try to take her on walks or have training time each evening. All 3 of mine love training time. |

Yes, she's 17 weeks old. :). She cannot stand going for walks- they freak her out. Obedience training starts in a week and a half. We continue to encourage walks and it's getting better but the trainer will be able to help get her over the little hump. Ooh training, I missed that comment- didn't sleep last night really well. GREAT idea. She's a super smart little gal, and she loves games. Especially finding treats. |
I agree with the suggestion for training. Do short sessions throughout the day, asking her to perform basic tricks like sit, down, shake hands, and so on. Otherwise, sounds like usual puppy antics. Max often had the zoomies and would attack his bed, digging and throwing it around. Usually he did this in the evening because he didn't want the day to end. :) Walks: Max did not want to take 2 step on our driveway, but after a couple tries, we were walking around our 1 mile neighborhood loop every day. I think familiarity of the same route helped him. Then I had to teach him to walk on different surfaces. We walked on pavement first, then sidewalks, then brick walks. He hated going in the grass for the first year, LOL. I almost miss those days because he stayed cleaner longer. :D Use a lure like a treat or a toy or another person. Be happy and confident, take a step forward and say, "Let's go!" |
