Harness help So I see others have mentioned harnesses. I have been wanting to get Daisy one. I've noticed some people mention the buddy belt. It looks like a great product but the only concern I have is the rubbing under their legs. I've had this happen before where the harness is not a mesh material and its more firm (like a collar material) and it starts to ware away their fur. Then they are bald and irritated in that spot. I was looking into a harness that is mesh material on the chest and under the the legs then is more of a sturdy fabric on top. Something like this : Top Paw® Reflective Dog Harness | Harnesses | PetSmart It makes me nervous because i've had pups that were trained and walked by my side and due to rubbing and the harness they've become irritated in that area. Any ideas? |
Max's first harness was like the one you linked to. A mesh vest. We were introduced to the Buddy Belt by a couple of Yorkie Talk moms and have used nothing else since. My boys have all of their hair in their armpits and upper chest. We have not experienced any irritation or hair loss. We walk a lot and my boys are far from being perfect heelers. The only thing that we do have to watch for, and this is true of any harness other than a really thin strap type, is we have to comb out the hair consistently to make sure small tangles do not turn into big tangles. Tangles anywhere on the body, including between the back legs obviously not caused by harnesses, can cause skin pulling and bruising. Some dogs of course will be more sensitive. For the BB, I would recommend one of the softest editions and the liners. For any other harness, whatever works best for your pup. There shouldn't be any irritation. If there is, there might be a size issue or extreme skin sensitivity. |
I recommend the Buddy Belt - SO attractive, cool, and well made - will last forever. Maximo sells them. |
I also recommend the buddy belt. ^^ they also sell liners for their harnesses that helps the rubbing on more sensitive dogs. |
Hi, this is the first time I have used this site or ever corresponded over the internet so apologies gor any errors. I had problems finding a comfortable harness for my Yorkie Ida but have just bought my 2nd TY PERFECT FIT harness they come in two pieces if your dog weighs under 6lb and 3 pieces if dog is over 6lb. The harness is totally fleece lined and extremely soft. Because it comes in pieces you can be really fussy about the fit each piece comes in a variety of sizes and so whether your dog has a large neck or a slender chest with a long back they can make it work. I had the armpit issue with Ida so I went up a size on the chest plate now it's excellent. She wears a three on the top and a four on the bottom she has the harness on the smallest fitting (you can alter the sizing for growth or to wear over a jumper) just incase it helps she weighs 1.75kg and is 6 months old. I've probably made it seem really complicated but it's not I got mine from globaldogshop.com anyway I hope this is a little helpful |
I'm definitely going to look into the buddy belt more! I think I might just get a cheaper one for now so she can get used to a harness plus a size 2 is still too big for Daisy. So in the mean time ill get one but then probably transition into the buddy belt :) Thank you everyone!! When I can start walking her, she will probably the fit into a buddy belt! lol |
We use a mesh one pretty much just like this: ![]() Mario only wears it when we go out, and his does say "service dog" on it. It has never caused any rubbing or issues with putting it on or off, and he does not seem to mind it at all. So far, it has been very durable as well. |
I have Buddy Belts for both of mine and we love them. There has never been a problem with matting or hair loss under their arms. Ask Maximo she will help you with sizing (she is very patient-believe me ;) Previously, I had mesh harnesses and my male backed out of it several times. It seemed too flexible or soft. |
