need advice on a dog
 
Hi everyone I need some advice .I am picking up my yorkie Sunshine in April she is 5yrs old and is 5lbs. Now here is where I need some advice I can also get a little boy who is 2lbs and 4 yrs old he has all his shots and has just had his teeth cleaned. He is in good health. Is there anything I should be considered about if I get him also because of his size? Thanks

Mine are 13 lbs, 2 years old.
8 lbs, 6 y.o.
And 6 lbs, 3 y.o.

Those full-grown at 2 pounds are extremely fragile. I know some who have accidentally stepped on them and injured them ...like broken legs. I'd sure think twice.

You certainly could get the 2 pound fella - but just truly, TRULY be aware that these tiny ones are much more vulnerable to certain things than the larger ones -- it's no joke, you really have to be careful and aware.

what is your lifestyle like? I think that would also be a huge consideration.

When I have babies that are so small and their projected adult weight is 2-3 lbs, I do not even consider them for sale....I keep my tinies.....doesnt happen often, but I do have 3 tinies....
These babies are so very special and there is absolutely NO ROOM for mistakes or misjudgements.....mistakes and such, will kill these tinies, no second chances....
It has been my experience that most people that go out of their way to have one of these tinies, has not even cracked a book that would give them ANY vital information they need, just to be sure the baby survives! These babies are routinely dropped, stepped on, run over, doors slammed on them, drownings in small fish ponds in the back yard, on and on and on.....reputable breeders that have tinies will NOT sell them to just anyone that has the money to buy the baby...they are not usually offered for sale to the general public, they are kept behind the scenes and PERHAPS, a friend of the breeder that has vast experience/knowledge about what it takes to safely co-exist with these tinies, will be offered the baby.....

I have a 3.4 lb yorkie and she is so petite boned. The breeder held her until 15 weeks and weeks before selling her to us. Even though we have trained her in so many regards, in some ways, we also have to treat her like a baby with many situations. If there is anything you want to ask, I am not a breeder just a regular person who adores this little darling, just let me know :) or feel free to private message me if that is easier.

Great advice from everyone on this thread! While my heart goes out to a 2-pound adult, the "no room for mistakes" advice is surely true. And as lovestiny says, a lot depends on your lifestyle. Could you coddle and protect that sweet boy for the rest of his life, and could you afford the vet bills that are likely to arise with such a tiny one?

If you are prepared for such a tiny dog, go for it, keep in mind they do have special needs and have to have special care.

I have a special place for the truly miniature dogs. I've only ever seen a couple of them and boy did I fall in love. My own tiny dogs both weigh around 5 lbs.

Hi my life style is I own my own business ( they would be going to work with me) . My house only has adults ( me and my hubby) . I am financially secure . I did read up on everything I could find . I do have a 4 lbs chi . I have also owned a Maltese who was 5 lbs and she passed away at 20yrs old. I wanted see if there was something that I didn't know about , because of him being so small. Thanks for all the good info . I am still thinking about what I am going to do. He is being sold by someone who is elderly and can not care for him properly. The dog has all his shot and just had his teeth cleaned and vet check . Thanks

When I read your second post the first time my eyes glanced so fast I read:

"Hi my life style is my own business"

Now, clearly that is NOT what you said, but my eyes skipped and that is what I read (sorry).

After I reread it a few times, I got what you said, but maybe lovestiny had the same eye skipping problem as I did?

Hi everyone , I decided not to get the little guy his size just scares me. But on another note I am going to look at little girl that is 2 yrs old on Wednesday that is being rehomed by her owner. They don't have time for her due to work. She is spayed and up to date on her shots. She is 5lbs. So I might be a momma to 2 yorkie girls.. I am so excited!!

I almost did get him but I got so nervous that something might happen to him it scared me to death. So I decided that I was only going to get Sunshine the 5yr old but now I have the opportunity to get a 2yr old girl too. So I guess things happen for a reason ..
