2% cottage cheese...yay or nay My husband and I have frozen yogurt everyday. When we have our treat, I give Penny a teaspoon of cottage cheese. We call it her ice cream and she loves it. She needs to lose weight though so I was wondering if I am impeding her weight loss. She has dropped about a half a pound so far. |
If she is loosing weight and you are treating her with a tiny little snack that she loves and looks forward to.....I say, let her have her little tiny treat....1 tsp of cottage cheese will NOT hurt this baby one bit! If it makes you feel better, go down to 1%.....see how many calories you save doing that.... |
Is 2% cottage cheese ok? Piper loved it last summer; I'd give her a spoonful after walk. I haven't lately, but I also used to mix it with her dry food to get her to eat...Thank you for helping to sort out the do's and don'ts with this food business! (Piper is not dieting or anything like) |
I think it should be fine. You can always change it to non fat Greek yogurt too. The probiotics can't hurt. |
Really? Greek yogurt?! And please know I don't mean to be obtuse, but would I get plain or vanilla for Piper? And how much/how often? IFFFFF (and it's a big if) she'll eat it. Thank you for your patience and help. |
Cottage cheese... every time one of my girls goes under anesthetic (teeth cleaning, etc.) my vet recommends giving them a little cottage cheese that night, so I'm thinking it cannot be that bad in small portions. |
Thank you, L&P; by the way, your babies are beautiful and look like they're very sweet, as well! |
It's fine. It's a favorite in my house! I use it as a liquid med mixer (never had one say no yet!), a kong stuffer- they go nuts. |
No kidding! For being a little thing, Piper can pack away the stuff she likes (her real meal is always challenging). And for a dog who chooses not to understand basic commands in any shape, manner or form, Piper learned cottage cheese after hearing it, like three times; same with chicken, etc! And she knows where 'all the good' stuff is kept and will position herself so as to help me understand what is expected of me!!! I fell in love immediately, she took over home and my life just as quickly and life is better than ever because Piper's in it--and running it and....! Too silly! |

I use low fat plain yogurt. I freeze it in tiny round ice cube trays. Put in in Rugers Kong and watch him go at it. Yum! |
It doesn't have to be Greek yogurt. The only difference between that and regular plain yogurt is the thickness. I think it's easier to give bc regular yogurt is thin and probably get more messy. Greek yogurt is more like a cream. Easy to lick off a spoon. Just make sure whatever kind or brand, it is plain. I would avoid the fruit or sweetened ones if there is xylitol or any artificial sweetener which is poisonous to dogs. I give some yogurt with fresh fruit as a special treat to mine and they LOVE it. The favorite is yogurt with Korean pear. |
Korean pear, who knew!?! I'll definitely give plain yogurt, regular and frozen, a try. Piper can be mighty particular; she does not like Cheerios for heavens sake! Thank you for good, useful info! |
