Daycare Hi All! I was thinking about sending minnie to daycare once a week to socialize with other dogs. She is 5 pounds and I found a place I am interested in sending her too that has cameras and a small room for small dogs with lots of other yorkies! I as well have someone who would take her once a week to the dog park and play with her. I can get home everyday besides mondays that's why I only need one day a week minimum. I'm a nervous wreck with sendingredients her to a daycare and having someone else walk her and take her to the park. Any advice and pros/cons would be great! |
Many pros.. The only con I can think of for daycare is that there's always danger of her picking up something at daycare. I only say this b/c my two caught the kennel cough at their daycare. I called to let them know and they said they didn't have anyone else calling or seen any other dogs with symptoms but took precautions just in case. I don't have definite proof but it's the only place they went to that wasn't home in the time frame they could've contracted it. |
Many doggie day care centers require your dog have the Bordetella vaccine, this can protect them from Kennel cough. There are some groomers that also require this. Check the pros and cons of this vaccine, also check with your vet. Hopefully others will be along with advise, suggestions. |
Thank you! Minnie is up to date with all of her shots. The daycare does require her to have bordetella! |
Just like human children, daycares do sometimes get bugs. But, usually nothing serious, and reputable facilities will take precautions if dogs are coming up ill. I work at a daycare. :) My little guys really love to go. |
Reese went to daycare the other day. They have a small dog room/area and other times they keep her upfront at the desk. She come home and sleeps for the rest of the day/night. It is great and she loves it. |
I sent Minnie to a place that was highly recommended to me as I had family freindships know the staff and owner, they had cameras as well so I got to watch her. She smelled so bad when she got home but was tired. I'm not toonly sure if she really cared for it or not on the cameras she was running g around playing with other dogs and there were times where she would just stand there and look confused. |
This is great opportunity for her to make friends and have fun. It's also great you look at the daycare's reputation. Just also be aware of the area, if they have hawks. I've heard of one lady who lost her dog to a hawk attack at a pet daycare when they let them run. Granted, the pet daycare claimed another dog got to it, but autopsy said otherwise :( |
