Climbing Yorkie Any suggestions for a climbing yorkie. I use plastic lattice as a fence to baracade her in my kitchen and she cannot climb that, but she has now become a pro at climbing to the top of her kennel. We have the smallest XS kennel and my 14 week yorkie is 1.9 lbs. She climbs to the top of her kennel and then thankfully is too scared to come down. I found her sleeping up there the other day. I work out of the home during the day, and she is home alone. I hate to take her kennel away from her because she loves it. I am afraid if I only leave her a bed in her xpen while I am away she will grow to not love her kennel and we kennel her at night when we are all sleeping. I kennel her on my night stand and we all get a good night sleep :). Any one have this problem or have a suggestion. Maybe if she did jump off, it's not too far of a fall? Interested in opinions... |
Jumping off objects is responsible for more injuries to these babies, than anything else....broken legs, jammed hips, dislocated joints, etc. When left at home alone, I would have a soft bed for her in her x-pen or however you have her set up when she is left unattended. At night, she can still sleep in her kennel at your bedside. ....and be sure she can not hang herself in that plastic lattice.... |
The lattice is flat on the top!! Nice thought thought, thank you. |
I agree about removing the crate when she's alone. What about giving her one of those soft tent-like or domed (cat) beds? She'd feel safe inside, but since its all soft-sided, safer!? She sounds like a very cute and very adventurous and very confident little monkey! |
Or if you insist to give her access to her crate (so happy for you/her that she loves her crate), how about putting a couple big boxes on top so she can't jump onto it? Better to prevent injuries than to risk it... |
