Spiteful or? Hello everyone!! So I am not sure if Daisy is just being spiteful or just can't hold her pee in, but recently she has being going where ever she pleases. She was doing so well with the pee pad. She does and doesn't go on the pee pad. When she does go on the carpet I do restrict her to a small area ( I guess you can say as punishment). I do reward her with love when she does go on the pee pad, just not with treats because I don't know at what age she can start having them. Does anyone have any other ideas? |
Sounds like spite. My pup was doing so well, and then one day we reprimanded him for trying to lick the food off the dishwasher () and then peed on the floor WHILE LOOKING US IN THE EYES! Just make sure she knows who's boss. |

But I don't have experience with my boy though. He's been trained to potty outside. |
I did bring her to the vet for shots and spoke to the vet about treats and if I can give them to her and she said yes. Daisy has peed on my bed, along with on my husband (but thats when she was extremely nervous). So my next thing to do is give her love and a treat when she goes on the pee pad. Hopefully this works :) I would love to potty train her outside but that will have to wait a while lol |
Dogs aren't really capable of "spite" or "revenge"...they just make mistakes bc they aren't clear on what they're expected to do. A dog wouldn't understand that bc they peed somewhere undesirable by you, that they are then therefore placed in a confined area....they don't make a correlation btwn those 2 items. I'd suggest you read the Sticky threads in the training section about potty training, there are some really great tips in those threads. |
The only you can do is remain persistent and consistent. Keep in mine they will backslide occasionally. As long as she doesn't have anything medically wrong with her like a UTI where she just can't hold it, just keep doing what you doing and eventually she will be 100%. It also doesn't hurt to reinforce the potty command periodically even after she is fully trained. Even though Duchess is potty pad trained 100%. I actually reinforce it almost every night. When I take my shower, I usually close the bedroom door and of course Duchess is in there with me. So what I do is take her to the potty pad and tell her to go potty and when she pottys I give her a big ole hug. I've had for two years now and except for the occasional misfire (sometimes she is on the potty pad but sometimes she is too close to the edge), she goes to her potty pad 100% now. So even though you think she is potty pad trained, sometimes it doesn't hurt to reinforce the command periodically. |

Daisy Dukes, the sticky threads are really really useful! I learned lots by reading through them before getting Scottie! Highly recommended! Quote:

Thank you everyone :) I'm going to try it!! Funny part is I think she "fake" pees because she will squat as if she will pee on the carpet and a second later ill try to clean it up and there is no wet spot in that area lol. |
