Un-neutered mail humping neutered female Hi, yesterday night I brought home a rescued neutered 8-year old female Yorkie from a neighbour who wasn't looking after her. I took her to the vet who checked her over and I'm to take her again in two weeks time to get her teeth cleaned; over-all she health wasn't in a very bad condition, however, she was filthy, full of knots and smelt awful. My 3 year old un-neutered male Yorkie (Jake) wouldn't let her get near him. This morning I took her to a professional groomer who shaved and washed her. She looked and smelt beautiful afterwards. I've named her Lucy. I took her home and since then Jake has not stopped humping her. He's going nuts, won't eat, won't play with us, he's forgotten all about us! My husband is offended, lol! I had planned to neuter Jake but just now I've got a lot of expenses - do you think he will settle down a bit, or shall I book him to neuter straight away? Also, if he's neutered do you think we will get back a little of the Jake we knew - playing with us, eating, loving treats etc. Thanks, any advice would be highly appreciated! |
Give it some time. I have noticed when I wash n groom my dogs the others show a more marked interest in the freshly washed dog. It is especially true for the few times I have had them done at a professional groomer. Just correct the behaviour of your male - he should settle down in the next day or two. |
Some years back when I had a pack of 3, the newest member was spayed, my vet told me to watch her when she came home as the 2 older ones may not recognize her scent as her would have scents of other dogs on her. I was lucky, my girls were the sweetest on this planet. They welcomed their little sister back with many licks lol. That is what may have happened with Jake. I agree with gemy, correct the behavior and do have Jake neutered ASAP. Neutering is for health reasons and is important to have done. |
Hi, thanks for your reply. Jake has actually settled down a bit since I wrote. I corrected his behaviour a few times and saying "no" everytime he got very close to Lucy and he's much better, phew! My husband was so upset! We haven't got much experience with male dogs, we've only every had one female Yorkie mix who passed away three years ago (she was 14). Anyway, Jake managed to calm down enough to eat his dinner, accept a couple of treats and even fell asleep on my lap. I will be neutering him once Lucy settles down a bit with us. Thanks again :-) |
oops! I meant ..."thanks for your replies" both were very helpful. |
