Is there a standard from years ago that they look for, or do the breeders get together and say, lets see if we can make their ears longer (LOL) or something, and then the judges change their standards to look for the new breeding look? Silly question, sorry, but I am very curious.
Kathy | First thank you for your compliment of Dara. She is a Canadian CH and quite young....
The standards are maintained by the National Clubs for every breed. Changes to the standard happen slowly and not very often! How-ever some breeders can interpret the standard in their own way. For example just exactly what does robust mean or compact or a balanced head?
Your questions are not silly at all. Breeders actually do get together through their National Clubs and also more informally to well for a number of reasons - health initiatives - breed direction - and yes some discussion of if and when and why we want to introduce a change to the standard. |
