Doggie dementia???? Have any of you had experience with your older "babies" having dementia? My 14 and 1/2 year old, Bentley, has developed sleeping issues. He used to sleep with us in the bed, as does Porsche, our 12 year old female. About 6 months ago he started waking up around 1:30 in the morning and walking around the bed, on our heads, until one of us got up and took him downstairs. What's up with that????:confused:My vet says it is canine dementia. |
We've had a alot of folks here who have yorkies w/ dementia / senility. Many have tried Anipryl for it with awesome results...your vet didn't mention this med...? |

Hope it's not anything bad. My late Yorkie (RIP) did this too @ night. He would wake up at odd times & just walk the bed. I tried changing beds, going to the couch, recliner, nothing would sooth him. Then in a few days he didn't sleep at all. Was very preoccupied, wondering around with no purpose. Would not be still. Well, when a lot of tests were done, the diagnosis was GME, not good. GME presents itself with neurological systems. Hopefully yours is just age related. Good luck |
Update! The vet that answered the question of sleep changes really didn't investigate Bentley's issues and so just gave an answer from the symptoms we provided. It ended up being related to kidney disease. Bentley drinks a lot during the day and night and so needs to potty a lot. We have a potty pad downstairs for him that he uses on the tiled kitchen. All of the other floors are laminate and the bed is very high even with doggy stairs. One of us now usually sleeps downstairs with him every night.:animal-pa |
