Another Yorkie Added to the Family Good morning, everyone! I feel blessed! On Monday night, a friend texted me to say a friend of hers had rescued a Yorkie from a breeder who was going to put him down because he wasn't perfect enough to sell. She asked me if I was interested in him. I jumped at the chance! I drove to San Francisco and picked him up yesterday. He's 11 months old, and he is a lovable little guy. They had him named Skittles, but he didn't know his name. I renamed him Harley. He is already responding to that. His coat is really dry. His tail is missing all of his hair. I took him to the vet when I got home from San Francisco. She thinks he could have a thyroid problem, which would account for the dry hair and the hair missing from the tail. He weighs 8.3 pounds, but I can feel all of his ribs. He needs more meat on his bones. That could be part of the problem with the thyroid too, I think. He's been marking everything he can find. I'm having him neutered today, so I hope that stops. He is in desperate need of grooming. As soon as he heals from the neutering, I'll get that done. At first, my other yorkie, Zoey, was terrified of him. She hid under the sofa or the bed any time Harley would get near her. Today, they're playing together like they've known each other their whole lives. I just wanted to share the news with you. If anyone has any thoughts about the dry hair, please feel free to share. |
Congrats on your new little guy! I love the name Harley! So glad you took him and he wasn't put down:eek: I struggle with people willing to put an animal down because they are not "perfect". Hope all goes well with his thyroid issue, I am sure you will get him on track! Having 2 is a lot of fun watching them play! Good luck with neutering today, post pics of your darlings when you can :) |
You did a wonderful thing taking Harley into your life. He is truly blessed you found each other. That breeder is a despicable person. I cannot imagine putting a dog down because he is not perfect enough to sell. |
My DD's rehomed yorkie was just the opposite fat, greasy, smelly but dry crunchy hair- We cleaned her up, trimmed her hair and fed her a grainfree diet with no extras. Took her a while to lose the weight but by the time she did her hair was shiny and soft! |
Congrats to you, Harley and the rest of your family. I can tell you are head over heels already. Bless you for taking him in! I'm sure you'll get him back in good health in no time! Dang Greeder! They should be hung or shot! I'll never understand how people can be so cruel! Post pictures when you can of your little ones! |
Congrats on having Harley as a new member to your family! And thanks for sharing this wonderful story of saving him from that horrible breeder - can't believe them! Hope he gets healthy again and grows back his hair after getting lots of love from you guys :) |
