Any Ideas??? Gizmo is eight months old now.. He has never has a hair cut or trim.. I am trying to figure out what I should do with his hair.. Should I leave them long, or should I trim him up somehow. He just looks funny with his hair all long and stingy. Even shortly after he gets brushed. I have seen some pics on here of some of the yorkie's with a shorter cut. Just wondering if you can do that yourself, or do you take them to have it done?? |
I like the longer hair myself, but a lot of people like the "puppy cut" which is very cute and easier to take care of. My 7 1/2 month old pups look like punk rockers right now if I don't pull their hair into a top knot. It is a stage where you will have to decide what "look" you want and wait it out or go for the cut. Sorry, that probably didn't help you one little bit. |
actually, I have been thinking of pulling his hair up out of his face, but I don't know what he will think of that. Do I just use a rubber band?? |
It depends for me. For Bouncer, I give him a modified Sch. cut in the summer, cut it even into a puppy cut in early fall, then let him grow all winter until it gets very, very warm in the spring. With yorkies, it's all about what YOU want. try searching for lots of pictures of different cuts. The picture forum on here is great for that! And be sure you tell your groomer EXACTLY what you want. I can't tell you how many times I have customers come in who are unsure or tell you one thing, but what they're saying is completely different from what they want. |
Rubber bands or clips are usually the items to hold the top knot. There are many internet sites that give directions on how to do this. Also, you can still grow out the coat and have bangs cut if you don't feel like placing a top knot each day. Schatzie has the bangs with a long puppy cut and Ransom will remain with the longer hair and I place top knots in him every morning. It's definitley a personal choice on how you want to keep Gizmo's coat. Depending on the type of coat the Yorkie has also determines just how long to keep it. Some coats just don't grow, they break off etc. While others seem to grow long over night. :p |
4 Attachment(s) Yes, they have ones that aren't supposed to break the hair so much. They are very small (will fit tightly on the top of one finger) so you don't have to wrap around and around. Cowboy literally has a hair umbrella over his eyes when the hair isn't pulled up. However, if you cut that hair into bangs, you won't be able to get that "top knot" look. Mercedes looks like two completely different dogs before and after getting her hair pulled up. You will probably notice your dog's eyes being pulled up, but I just take the hair and gently tug out a little so it isn't pulling at her eyes or skin from any direction. Here are some "hair variety" pictures of Cowboy. The real shaggy one I brushed his hair forward just to see what he would look like. My husband said he looked like one of the Beatles :p |
I just took Sophie to the groomer for the first time. She suggested not to time the body and let her get used to coming to the groomer. So she trimmed her paws and nails, around her eyes and private areas. She looked so cute when I went to pick her up. Sophie is 7 months old. |
