Dog size I am trying to get an idea of what different dogs of different weights look like. If some of you could post a pic of your dog on this thread and tell their age and weight that would be great. That way I have a few ideas of what four pounds looks like, five pounds looks like, etc... They said that Chloe will be about four pounds full grown (not sure if I believe it) and I wanted to get an idea of the actual size appearance. I honestly haven't been around enough small dogs to even guess how much they weigh by looking at them. Thanks!!! |
How old is she now? And how much does she weigh? My guy is 1.7# @ 17 weeks. I have a picture somewhere on here but I don't know where. Lisa |

Pictures don't show weight very well, trust me. The AKC breed standard weight for a Yorkshire Terrier is between 4 and 7 pounds. Maybe this will help: http://yorkiepassion.com/growthchart.htm |

Just a brief (I hope) comment about the weight thing..... I have always wondered why they use weight instead of dimensions like height and length to describe the yorkie breed size since you can have a 9"X9" dog who weighs 3 lbs if it is finely boned and light or it can weigh 5 or even 6 lbs if it is heavier boned and stocky in appearance. The difference between 3 and 6 lbs is somethimes indiscernible due to a lot of things including whether the dog has a full coat or not as all of that hair can weigh a lot on a little dog. So, my point is, you may see pictures of dogs that are 4 lbs, dogs that are 5 lbs and dogs that are 6 lbs and they may all look essentially the same for this reason. 6 lbs is still very small. |

Thanks for the responses so far! I know that the pictures aren't going to give me any idea of Chloe's size but I thought it would be fun to see the different dogs at different sizes and ages. Right now she is 12 weeks. I am not sure what she weighs...I take her in for her second set of shots tomorrow and I will find out. When I got her two weeks ago she weighed 1.5 pounds but has DEFINETLY grown. After her vet appt tomorrow I will post her latest weight and get some more pics up of her. Speaking of weighing, does anyone know of a good scale I could buy for my house that would actually register her tiny little size? I would love to be able to keep up with her growth in between vet visits. |

I definitely agree with you. For example, my Kia is 4#s, but due to her tiny frame, she is comparable to a lot of 2# puppies. And my Sydney is bigger-boned, and feels big, but only weighs 6.5#s. I've seen larger framed dogs that weigh 4#s, and smaller framed dogs that weigh more than 4#s. Many years ago, when I got my 1st Yorkie, my breeder actually described her size by length and height. |

Post office...great idea...also the Pet Smarts with the vets offices in them will let you weigh them when you bring them into the store. :thumbup: |
