New Carpet/Rug Chewing Seeking advice from anyone that's had a carpet/rug chewer. I threw out my old area rug in the living room yesterday and replaced it with a new one. The old one was short nap kinda oriental style, when Presley was a young pup I caught him a couple of times chewing on a corner, this habit was very short lived and he left it alone. The rug I replaced it with is long, thick shag and you would think it was Presley's new toy! He is pulling at the edges and chewing, it's obvious he thinks it's his, I make him stop and he only sneaks around the couch and goes to another edge minutes later. Can you spray bitter apple or something of the sort safely on rugs? Or is there something else I can do? I do not want my rug messed up, but most importantly I do not want carpet fibers in his intestines. I am home with him most of the time, but I am not even going to church this morning because I don't trust that little stinker from chewing on "his new toy" Thanks! |
The bitter apple should be fine. I've used it on a couch cushion, blanket, and wood with no damage. If you can test it in an inconspicuous spot, that would be best. Boys! :D |
"Boys!" is right, lol! It's funny you say couch cushion, been there, done that;) I have a leather couch and he decided he liked to pull at the stitching  When I picked out the rug it never crossed my mind that it would be his new chew toy (it should have been my first and foremost thought because we all know and love Presley and his mischief :D) I was way more concerned with their toenails getting caught, you would have laughed seeing me intentionally trying to get my nails caught on the different rugs before I decided which one...leave it to Presley, he owns me, my husband, the house and everything in it in his mind :aimeeyork |
I spritz the area Mario was chewing on with jalapeno juice, then sprinkled red pepper powder on it. I lightly spritzed the whole carpet in my kiddo's room with the jalapeno juice as well since that was his primary area of choice. He stopped within a week, but I kept it up for a month or so to make sure |
