What kind of morkie do have? She is small, thin and weighs 5 lbs. Everyone asks if she is a toy breed. I tell them no she's just small but I'm not sure. She was adopted from a pet store at a local mall by another lady. I got her when she was about 14 weeks old and weighed about 1.5 lbs. the vet says she checks out ok with everything. I have seen other yorkies/morkies that are much bigger than her. The paperwork states she is golden color. So How do I really know what she is? Toy, Standard, etc. Thanks for any input. Welcome to YT. A Morkie is NOT a BREED, it is a mix of 2 breeds once called a MUTT, there are no "standards" in size or weight when it comes to mixed breeds. You can place her in any group you want, if she stays 5 lbs. and you want to say she's a toy, so be it, it's your choice. |

She's beautiful!!!!! I love her color! Yorkies are up to 7 pounds by the "standards" and they are a toy breed. My Pixi is a Yorkie and the same as yours being small and petit at 5 pounds but she is pretty much the norm;) Your little one looks like she has taken a lot from her Yorkie side... Adorable! |
Both Yorkie and Maltese are in the toy group, so I would say the answer is yes, she is a toy breed. She is a cutie and welcome. |

My neighbor has a morkie and she weighs 3.5 lbs. and looks all yorkie, weight with this mix varies, it's a crap shoot, some can be big, some tiny like my neighbors. I have seen several morkies and all were diff. sizes. |
My 1-1/2 year old Morkie Peanut is similar. She is 5.5 lbs and she also looks way more Yorkie than Maltese. No one has ever asked if she is a toy breed, but I guess I would say yes if they did. :) |
Hi and welcome! Your baby is a doll! I think most people when they ask if they are "toy" are mainly referring to her small size. A toy could be considered many different dog types. I would say yes she is definitely a toy. I have a lot of people ask me if mine are teacups, both of mine are 5lbs, I try to take that time to let people know there are no real teacups and the dangers irresponsible breeders put the pups in by breeding smaller and smaller. No matter what your baby's category she is cute as a button! |

But I'm confused, OP. You said another lady adopted her from a pet shop, then you got her at 14 weeks? That sounds like she bought her. How did you come to own her? PS I would not put much trust into papers from a pet shop. They are known to give false papers, or wrong info, or papers from registries other than AKC, which are not worth the paper they are printed on. |

That's pretty lucky then! Just keep in the back of your mind that since you don't know the breeder and the dam and sire's health background, that there may be a slight chance of some type of genetic issue that pops up in a few years. They usually don't show up for a few years. Uni was diagnosed at age 3 with LP. Anyway, it would be a good idea to look into pet insurance BEFORE she is diagnosed with anything, bc if she is diagnosed then it would be a pre existing condition and many insurances won't cover the issue or would be more expensive to have the insurance in the first place. |

My Monty is a Morkie and is a strapping 7.4lbs! He is 10 months so pretty much done with his growing. |
Bella looks like she has a lot of Yorkie and is 100% sweetly adorable. A little honey, for sure! |
