My 5-month old yorkie has never wagged his tail Hi all, I am pretty new here, so please bear with me if there have been a lot of topics on this issue. My 5-month old yorkie baby boy has never wagged his tail once - not that I have seen of. His tail has been docked and its not super short and curled upwards all the time (kind of stiff). I have been trying to move his tali around and even gave it a pinch but it didn't even seem to bother him the slightest!! Does anyone ever have this problem before ? Is this even normal? Is it possible that he would never learn or wag his tail ever? Thanks! :( |
It does seem a bit odd that his tail has just *never* ever wagged. I'd have the vet take a look at it maybe, next time you're in...? |
My boy wags (if you could call it that) only very slightly when he is very excited. However, sometimes when he is dreaming he wags at 90 miles an hour. |
Teek has a stump and it moves all the time! He gets so excited when I come in the room even if I was only gone a few minutes. His stump goes at 90 miles and hour it seems. The puppies have full tails and they wag their tails all the time. Do you talk in a high pitched voice to the puppy? That always makes mine wag their tails, or if I say their names while looking at them the tails start going. Mine wag their tails so much that I can't imagine it not happening. From the sounds of the stub it was not cut correctly. I would have a vet look at it and maybe when they cut it they damaged a nerve in the tail and so they can't feel their tail? Another possibility is a spinal injury that killed the nerve going to the tail. I know someone with a cat that has a back injury and so it could not move it's tail and the vet recommended them docking the tail since the tail was basically dead. I would have it looked at by a vet. Definitely let them know about it at their next visit. I am so glad my puppies have their tails as they are the best and cutest things ever. The keep them over their backs most of the time and they are adorable. I play with their tails all the time and tell them how much I love their cute tails. |
I didn't know you have to request to shave the tail at groomers so his hair is super long and we call it his feather duster and that things always slapping someone in the face! Sometimes the whole butt shakes! |
I don't have an answer for you; however, I just love my nubbin' lovins' I get from Zeusy. He wags his nubbins' like crazy. When I ask him if he loves mommy, he wags his nubbins'. We have let the hair grow on it, and he looks adorable. When he had his FHO surgery, that was one of my requests -- please do not cut the nubbins' hair. I sure hope you can get an answer. I have to say that is the first time I've ever heard of a dog not wagging his tail. |
We have a 12 yr old Schnauzer that did not wag her tail ever until about 2 yrs ago. She was about a yr old when we got her and was not well socialized as a puppy. I thought it was very odd that she didn't wag her tail. About 2 yrs ago, she started wagging her little stub of a tail. I don't know why it took her so long to do it but it did. |
Thanks for all the replies ! I will def. get this question out next time I am at the vet.. and I will just be patient and see if he will wag his tail any time soon :) |
