Discount Dog Food Does anyone have any good sites or stores where dog food goes on sale or is discounted? During Black Friday Wag.com had everything 30% off their website so I stocked up on dog food. I haven't seen dog food discounted since then. I use Natural Balance Duck and Potato. For my two dogs I go through a 12 pound bag every 3 weeks. The cost is about $35 - $40 a month. I don't belong to Costco or Sam's Club but would join if they sold my brand of dog food and it was cheaper. Right now I order off of Petco or Amazon. |
My cousin orders all her dog food from Chewy.com......great prices she says..... I get so goosey about dog food that goes on sale...I have visions of old dog food, or dog food that may have gotten damp and may be moldy....I have a very suspicious mind and always try to figure out WHY something is on sale, especially when/if "nothing" is wrong with it! |
I feed 3 yorkies- my two 6 1/2 lbs and my daughters 12lb (she eats almost 2x the littles)- I got the 14 lb bags (earthborn Holistics)and was buying them often- I found the 28 lb bag stayed fresh and saved me quite a bit. I fill a big canister on the counter and am careful to roll down and seal the original bag. A tractor supply opened nearby and has a $5 coupon on big bags with the $3 internet coupon Earthborn sends every 6 weeks or so it has really cut down my spending. I just signed up for Chewy.com and got a $15 first order coupon I am going to use next. |
I buy Mario's in the large (30lb) bag. Then I fill a 1.5 gallon tightly sealed bucket and a 5 gallon almost air tight sealed bucket. This bucket has an o-ring around a tight fitting lid. Do not recall where I got it. It was a bulk food container. I refill my smaller house container from the 1.5 gallon so I am not exposing/opening the bulk of the food in the 5 gallon container regularly. So far, it stays fresh this way, and Mario is thrilled. It is a little cheaper on my wallet to buy the big ones too. |
Thanks right now the biggest size for NB Duck and Potato small bites is 12 pounds. I find I get more food in the small bites than the bigger size. I may buy the 26 pound bigger bite size bag and see how long that last me. I still have some time from my last bulk buy and will see if anything goes on sale. |

Company's use sales to get people to take a look at there product Like " Hay look at me I'm better then the food your buying" there is usually a pattern to when a product goes on sale If pee pads are on sale at say Home depot then I know they will be on a better sale at Costco . You can always check the bests before date and see if you will use it up before that date. I always take advantage of a good sale if its something I would buy anyway. |
Just thought I would post Amazon has Natural Balance Duck and Potato on sale today for just under $24.00. Usually it is $33.00 a bag. This is the lowest I have seen it. |
I like ordering from Chewy.com. If you use the autoship you get a discount on the food plus if you order over $49 you get free shipping. With Chewy you can go in and manage your autoship account very easily and change the ship dates when necessary. You just have to plan ahead because it takes about a week to get your order. |
