An FYI that most people probably already know. Our Zeusy had FHO surgery. As a result of the LCP Disease, he was on a regimen of anti-inflammatories before the surgery and after for pain. Before the surgery, he had blood in his poo (once). The vet thought it was due to stress from the pain (his joint had already collapsed on itself by the time he had surgery due to a delayed diagnosis). After the surgery, he had a VERY upset stomach and had a little bit of blood in his spit up (not vomit really). We immediately stopped these meds because poor Zeus had a mutilated stomach lining due to taking them. After researching online, these anti-inflammatories are horrible and just eat SOME not all stomachs to pieces. I don't think I will be giving these to him anymore and pray he never needs anything like that again. I don't know that there is an alternative. |

Jkpal, my poor baby probably has multiple personality disorder because of the many nicknames I've given him. I rarely call him Zeus. Zeusy has stuck. Just to name a few: Toot Toot, turkey turd, Gladys Kravitz (because he's the neighborhood watchman), Zeusy fruit, Zeusy Q, nubbin' lovins' (due to the nubby tail shaking), sweet, little angel baby, and Mommy's boy. I sing to him all the time (here are a couple of examples): He's my little Toot Toot and I love him, he's my little Toot Toot (to the tune of Little Deuce Coupe by the Beach Boys) and Zeusy, Zeusy Q (to the tune of Scooby Doo). I also make up all kinds of things (for example): Mommy had a little puppy, his hair was black as night, he followed her everywhere, and tried to stay out of sight (to Mary had a Little Lamb), because he follows me everywhere and will be under my feet and I don't know it. I love this furbaby more than I can express. I can't wait to get home from work everyday and see his sweet face. P.S. For those too young, Gladys Kravitz was on the show Bewitched and was the nosy neighbor. |
Wow, poor baby! I hope he's feeling alright now. Thanks for sharing. That is a lot of nicknames and phrases by the way lol I call Beowulf, Beowulfies or Beowoo or Wulfies, and my saying is "Beowulfie-Wulfs Thats my little Beowulfs" :D I'm CRAZY about my little furbaby too.:rolleyes: |

I am very happy to hear is recovering well from surgery, aside from the tummy problems. Which anti-inflammatories was he on? My Max has done well with Rimadyl, but I know side effects like internal bleeding are a big concern with some dogs. I don't think Teddy has ever had it. He is my more sensitive boy. For pain control, there are definitely alternatives your vet can prescribe. |
Maximo, it was Meloxicam. The first side effect listed on the internet was gastrointestinal bleeding. Scared the heck out of me. I know that Advil bothers my husband's stomach, so it makes sense that Meloxicam could bother Zeusy's. Zeusy was on a minuscule dose of Zantac for about 2 weeks and felt much better -- no problems since. The vet thinks he may have a sensitive stomach but said it is much more common than people think. She said if we had anymore problems to bring him back, and he could therapy longer on the Zantac. |
