New to the site, not sure how it all works... Hello all. I am new to this site and am currently trying to navigate my way through. I have two Yorkie's... my 7 year old male, Pippen, at 6 lbs. and his 5 year old daughter, Teagan, at 5 lbs. I found this site after searching for answers for a health issue they are having. Teagan was sick over the New Year holiday. Now she is better, and he is sick. I think he may be going to the Vet later today. They both have very sensitive stomachs and are frequently sick with bouts of vomiting and diarreah, for a day or so and then it's gone. Pippen is worrisome though today because his stool is bloody mucus. Just a little, but it's still a worry. He has had the mucus before, but not the bloody looking stool he has today. I am concerned... My extended family are Yorkie lovers as well, with 5 among them, in different areas of the State. They all have the same issues. I wonder if maybe it's a Yorkie thing..???? Anyone else have any thoughts? That said, I am always looking for great new pictures of Yorkie's, and look forward to seeing some of yours. If I can figure out how, I will post a couple of mine as well. |
Hi and welcome :)! So sorry your little ones have been ill. I don't believe bloody mucus stools is a yorkie thing as I have 3, and don't see this in them unless they have a GI bug perhaps. If you're seeing bright blood, then it's likely an irritation in the lower tract. |
Hi and welcome to the site Maybe over the holiday they got a few to many treats it happened to us and Bella had the same reaction. Dehydration is the enemy so off to the vets we went for a shot of nausea and meds for the bowel, and bland food for a few days, all was fine in a day or two. |
I'm new, too. This site is new to me, too. I was looking for ideas about potty training, and discovered a recommendation for the book on training a puppy in 7 days. I bought it, read it, and have my 5 month old yorkie puppy on schedule 1. It rained here yesterday, and that was fun adhering to the schedule in the rain, but she did a good job. I have an older yorkie, he's 9, and has been in charge all these years so he's not too fond of Hannah yet. |
sick puppies no more Thank you all for your suggestions. Well, it seems that as usual, they are both normal today. I have been feeding them a small amount of boiled chicken in broth with rice since Teagan got sick. Pippen is his usual bouncy self today. Thank goodness. As I said, this happens often, and it's weird. Not the bloody part though. It was a very small amount of dark blood, so I don't know. They aren't fed table food, and only get very small treats after a bathroom run, I've learned that lesson... We have a Bradford Pear tree in our yard that drops little slimy pears in the winter and that has been a huge issue with their GI problems over the years. I haven't noticed as many this year. They are very small and impossible to pick up, so our only hope is hungry birds... I need to figure out how to post pictures, and view others. Love these little guys :) |
