Update on Lacy's Giardia I have had quite a few of you caring people keep asking how Lacy is doing with her giardia, (thank you!) so instead of trying to send everyone PM's, I thought I would send one to the list. Heard back from the vet today and Lacy is doing really well. :-) She is not 100% cured of the giardia, but close. I don't know how they measure it, but previously, she was measured at a 30 count, now she is down to 2. YEA!!! The vet said that some puppies never get rid of giardia, until they are an adult and have a stronger immune system, (and some dogs never get rid of it) so he said he thought it would be okay to just leave her be for now and see how she does. The one thing that really bugs me, is that her poop is still very soft, it almost always leaves a residue on the UGO pad when she poops. I never had that problem with my other Yorkies, when I picked up their poop, it left no residue behind. So it just means a whole lot more cleaning. Is this common? Do any of you have pups that always have soft stool? The vet said he doesn't think her soft stool is a result of the giardia, and suggested putting her on Royal Canine Gastrointestinal diet and see how she does, so we will do that. I previously said I would have a champagne toast party for Lacy when she is finally cured of the giardia, and although she is not 100% cured, I still want to have a party to celebrate her return to good health. So, how many of you live close enough that you would want to come over for a party? And of course you can bring your own Yorkie, or Biewer, or whatever you have! There will be champagne and appies for the adults and puppy treats for the kids. I live in Scottsdale Arizona. I know Anne lives in Phoenix, and someone else lives in Fountain Hills. Surely, there must be others that are within driving distance for a little celebration? And it would be wonderful to meet some of the YT members! So please RSVP and let me know if you can attend. (Joan, I so wished you lived close enough to come!!!) Sharon :longyorkie: :biewergirl: |

I would be happy to toast her from northern Arizona with my coke cola! I truly hope she gets rid of it completely and it doesn't come back!!! She is a beautiful little girl and I'm sure it's not fun for either of you. Well wishes to you Lacy. |

Your vet isn't quite right on this one (nor was mine, when Marcel had after effects of giardia for *months* on end). Those soft stools may go on for months, until her small intestine has fully recovered from the assault. Did you start the probiotics yet? Aw, thanks for the invite, but we have plans for NYE already...but I hope you have fun!!! |

When is the party Sharon? LOL We're up at our cabin on the rim till the 6th. I'm the Fountain Hills person. So glad Lacy is feeling better. My pups often had softish stools till I started feeding them raw. Now just tiny and very firm stools. Not advising you to feed Lacy raw - just saying - one great benefit of raw is those stools! Lacy Thanks for the update. So glad it is improving but wish it would go away completely. With the low number do you still have to clean as you did before? What a pain if so. You have probably done this already, but plain pumpkin can sometimes harden up loose stools. Also is there an additive food that might add some bulk! Hopefully someone with expertise in nutrition etc may be able to suggest. I hear you about picking up loose stuff, a real mess, and so easy with harder stool. Hope things improve for Lacy and you soon. Happy New Year and hopefully a more peaceful one for you. :) |
