Greetings From MN Hello all!! I am excited to have found this page. I recently adopted a 1 year old yorkie named Reed. He is extremely skittish, but loving at the same time. Any sudden movement and hes shaking. I got him from a woman who rescued him from a breeder, he weighs 3lbs. I'm curious to see if any of you have picky eaters and what you did to remedy it. I wanted to ad that the breeder he was rescued from was not one of god standing or practice. I am all for responsible breeding. Sorry for the link to his pic in my post I will look up how to post photos. It must be slightly different from other forums i frequent. |
Welcome from Arizona! Imho it will take time for him to adjust to good food, don't give up. |
Whatever he is on now, and he is eating it, WAIT until he is settled into your home and he is not bombarded by new home, new owner, new yard, new schedule, new, new, new....and he is a timid little baby....start slowly, give him time to adjust to you and his new home and surroundings and schedule....then you can concentrate on changing his food if that is necessary.....slowly, over time. What is he on now? Bless you for taking on this unfortunate little soul and making life for him joyous, meaningful, and full of love and security!!! |
Hi and welcome to YT :)! I used to live in Minneapolis, btw. Bless your heart for taking in this little one...I bet he's precious. Don't worry too much about the quality of food right now, just get him eating...even if it's not the best food. One trick to try right away is to sprinkle some Parmesan Cheese (from the can) on his food, it can be really enticing for dogs. |
What a wonderful Christmas gift for both of you! Insofar as his skittishness, just be very patient, sooth him, but also tell him "C'mon now, that's only a chair being moved..." in a practical voice as you don't want to encourage him to be scared (hope that makes a little sense). Maybe carry him around the house occasionally and while holding him, close cabinets, move chairs, etc., so he can see what is making the noise from the safety of your arms. And again, in calm, but practical voice, tell him he's fine, it's just that old chair. As mentioned, take it easy for awhile...He's in a brand new, big, and pretty scary world. Lot's of love and patience will bring changes. You sound like a very caring and understanding person and he's very lucky to be yours! |
Hi, I'm also in MN! I was in St Francis (north of the Twin Cities) but am now back up in the Duluth area. Congrats on the new baby! He's been through a LOT and you need to have a ridiculous amount of patience with him. Take it slow and easy. Best of luck!!!! |
