What do you use for flea prevention? I decided to get Lady a collar and spray her with vinegar and water solution. I looked at drops but I don't like how they make the hair oily. The collars kills eggs and everything and lasts 7 months. It can get wet also. Just wanted to know what everyone else uses and how well it works for your babies. |
Some friends of ours use the collars I believe you are referring to (Seresto??). They like them. We use 4-Legger shampoo w/natural flea repellant, frontline plus, and capstar if I take him somewhere that has flea risks (dog park, friends w/dogs, etc). |
We use sentinel. |
When you use a topical does it make your yorkies hair oily? My baby is just 4 lbs and I think most topicals say 5lbs minimum. |
I didn't know there was a 7 month collar. We like our dogs without any collar on, especially in the house. We harness up for walks. We use advantix II drops, a couple days after application they get a bath. It's really not that bad. Our yorkie is in the 4 pound range, no problems. We only apply it about three times a year, summer-fall is our flea season... nada the rest of the year here. |
That stupid collar isn't working!!!! My poor baby is restricted to the hall since we have carpets everywhere and furniture. She's so sad. I'm going to try the topical drops now. I have to get rid of these boogers! I hate them!!!! And she's not happy with them either. |
I never put a collar on Spice , I harness her . I use nexguard and it has worked very well and I dont have to worry about bathing her like with a topical. I can bath her every 2 weeks or when she needs one ( sometimes that can be more often LOL) and not worry about having to put more on. |
We use Revolution drops. No oily, and can bath the pup about 2 hours after the drops if you want to. Have used it monthly for about 6 years and not fleas. Keep Capstar around for when we go to the dog shows etc where their may be other dogs with fleas around or if we stay in a hotel room that I am not sure of. Has always worked well for us and it is dosed by the dogs weight. |
I went to the vet and he gave me comfortis for her. Well gave it to her with food and she got sick. Now I don't know if she got enough in her system for it to work. After this she's not getting it again. I looked it up and it's a common side effect. Ugh!!!! I gave a pill to my yorkiepoo and she's ok. |
Update: I see the fleas dropping off her! Thank goodness! She was laying on her (clean) pee pad and I see them laying there. I'll check her in a couple more hours and see if I see any more. I want her out of her area in the hall and with me! It's awful to have to keep her in the hall. But it's a must. |
Do you have Capstar? |
Never heard of it |
Capstar is a flea treatment pill that befits working in about 30 minutes. It kills 90% of the fleas in about 4 hours. It kills the adult fleas very quickly. Pets can scratch as the fleas die -- I have never had this happen, but it is reported. The effect only lasts for about 24 hours so it is often used along with the routine monthly treatment when an outbreak occurs, such as, your dogs being exposed to a dog who has fleas. My pup got fleas from a hotel room we stayed in once and it was nipped in the bud fast by Capstar. Another time we aware at an agility trial where there were lots of dogs and I saw some fleas on some of the dogs there so I gave her a Capstar pill. Police dogs use it a lot when they go into places that are infested I would check with your vet first, but it can be ordered from many places. |
