Yorkie topknot and broken hairs Hi everyone, I have been keeping Tessa's hair up in a cute topknot with an elastic and bow. I always ensure it is not too tight; however, I notice a lot of broken hairs so I have to give the bow thing a rest! I would prefer not to cut it and just give it a rest from the elastic for a few months; however, I am wondering - if I do cut it will it grow back fully? Tessa is just over a year and I recall reading somewhere that if you cut the body coat at that age it will never grown back properly or fully. Any and all advice and responses are very, very much appreciated. Happy Holidays to all. |
A lot of the bows w/ elastics use latex bands & that causes quite a bit of damage to the hair if left on for awhile. I use the snag free bands, they're very stretchy & cut them off w/ band scissors. Re-do their top knot when needed. I sell these on my site if you can't find it locally. This video is by a very good customer of mine, she demonstrates how to put a bow w/ elastics w/ perm paper. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqunQ6crjgM |
Hi there! Yeah I have been having the same problem I am also very carful not to put it in to tight and I cut out the bands with band sisters I only seeing a little breakage in the middle of her head. It's weird! I put a little cocnut oil on the spot it helps a little I think I will continue with that |
Because Chanel's hair starting breaking with elastics in also, I switched to putting small plastic barrettes in her hair. They did not seem to break the hair at all. You can get them very cheap at pharmacies. Just after Chanel was bathed, the barrettes would not stay in very well because the hair was too slippery, but the next day they would. |
I'm also going to use barrettes. I can get them at the dollar store really cheap. |
You might try using the small little scrunchies - they are softer than bands. I use them daily - go around the hair three times then loosen a little bit. Before bedtime I loosen it a lot then put a new one in the next morning. |
