Getting a puppy! Need help :) Hey everyone! So I need a little help in figuring something out about this puppy that I'm thinking about getting. I have always had dogs my whole life, and lost my little baby (she wasn't a Yorkie she was a mixed breed of a spaniel and a border collie...) She was 11 and had heart problems from birth and one day her heart just stopped... It was very hard loosing her but I am ready now for another dog in my life and since I always wanted a yorkie I decided to look in to this. I found this woman who has a 2 kg blue yorkie and she had two puppies, which one of them I'm thinking about getting... The thing is, she only has the mom, she says the dad is 1.80 kg and the puppies are going to be small, since I don't really know much I wanted to show you the little one and see what you guys think, does he look pure breed? From your experience with your own dogs, does this 1.5 month old puppy look like he's really going to be small? Is there anything else I should know/ask her? I've only seen pictures, I'm probably going to her house tomorrow to see him... Thanks ahead for the answers :) pictures in link: http://s29.postimg.org/a0nf508pj/image.jpg http://s29.postimg.org/8yd8mgpw3/image.jpg |
Hi and welcome to YT :)! Yes, that cute little fella looks all purebred to me! As far as size though, it can be so unpredictable. What is the current puppy's age and weight? This might be a good thread for you to read: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ent-guide.html |
All I can tell you is that I, too, have had canines my entire life...from muts, to border collies, to German Shepherds...But Piper is my first Yorkie and she is unlike any other dog I've ever known. Welcome to a love unlike any other and be prepared, you'll be given a run for your money! Crazy, wonderful and your life will change (better than you could imagine)! |
He is ADORABLE! Yorkies are awesome, I would say , Go for it!!! :-) |
Size of the babies is determined from the line of dogs...not only the parents, but most importantly, what is BEHIND those parents, on both sides, for at least 9 generations back. The parents can weigh 4 lbs each, but if there are large dogs in this baby's pedigree, this baby can weigh 4 lbs or you may get a throwback, and the baby will weigh 10 lbs!!! You could also get a baby that only gets to 3 lbs, also because of what is behind this breeding pair....If you have a breeder that is familiar with what she is breeding and her lines, she will be able to present an educated guess about what that baby MAY weigh.....and trying to "guesstimate" what a baby is going to weigh as determined by that baby's pedigree and lines, is iffy at best, at 6 weeks old.....but your breeder will be better able to determine more closely, by the time the baby is 12 weeks old, as determined by the line of dogs behind this puppy..... |
Buy pet insurance. Wish I did for our two yorkie's probably would have saved me at least $15,000. |
Oh, I could spend hours kissing on that baby! Can't help about size, but Yorkiemom1 knows her stuff, imho. I would listen to her. Good luck and congratulations. |
