Safe chews My little Katie has has some tummy trouble and I have stopped giving her ANYTHING not for dogs. She hates dog food but I am trying to get her to eat it and when she gets hungry enough she will eat it. I am going on the theory when she is hungry enough she will eat. NOW she loves to chew almost anything she can get her teeth in raw hyde tooth brushes and loves to chew plastic. I am worried this will upset her tummy. WHAT ARE SOME ACCEPTABLE CHEWS FOR A IRRITATED TUMMY TRACK. She just turned a year old on 11/30/15 Someone please tell me how to post pictures here. Thank you Mike |
Hi and welcome to YT :)! Can't really say what chews will predictably be "acceptable" for her tummy, since every dog is different. I use CET Chews (get on Amazon), Honest Kitchen Beams, RMBs, Munchy Stix, and various other things... |
Piper isn't wild about anything "chewy," but she needs it for her teeth and it keeps her occupied for a few minutes. I find that I have to convince her that something is 'gooood bone' by keeping it just out of her reach and teasing her a bit. Also, I find that with chews, if I run a corner of it under hot water until it's somewhat softened and a bit bendable, she tends to chomp on it more readily...Geez louise, we search and research, buy the best we can afford and still we have to convince our little ones to ohpleasejusttryitpleasejustalittlebit...And then off it goes to the utility room where I can easily grab it for the neighbor's dogs (the other day neighbor wondered aloud why his dogs weren't going for their usual treats and I told him it's cuz they'd been getting top-o-the-line stuff from moi!!) He said he figured as much. |
We use bully sticks from chewy.com. Our boys love em! I've read on here that some people don't like bully sticks because they may break their pup's teeth. Here's the ones we get: Bully Sticks 12" Dog Treat, 1 count and Braided Bully Sticks 12" Dog Treat, 1 count When the stick gets to a nub, we throw it away and like Ann said, "Can't really say what chews will predictably be "acceptable" for her tummy, since every dog is different." |
Because of the recalls and so forth, dogs getting sick, we no longer buy any prepared biscuit or formulated "treat". |

As far as tummy upset- that's down to the individual. I personally use raw meaty bones, whimzees brand chews, himalayan dog chews, dried sweet potato, and bully sticks as our go-to chews. I am neurotic about my babies and have one with allergies so I am very careful. Rawhides are dangerous, please please don't give them to your baby. |
