People Cold I have a cold and I'm being careful to not kiss Buddybear in the face or let him lick me. Am I being too cautious that he could catch my cold?:animal-pa |
That's a good question, I would like to know too. Hope you feel better soon, it sucks to be sick during Christmas! |
There are definitely many bacteria and viruses that can transfer btwn humans and animals. I don't think most URIs are transferable, but I mean...theoretically any virus can mutate and change...I just don't think it happens w/ the common cold/URI per se. |

My brief research shows this: "Can your pet catch a cold or flu from you? Dogs can’t: “There’s no concern with dog-to-human, or human-to-dog, transmission,” says Scott Weese, the Canada research chair in zoonotic diseases and an associate professor at the Ontario Veterinary College. Dogs get viruses from each other. But a cat can catch cold or flu from you." Your Dog and the Cold Germ | petMD "The answer: Generally, no. Research suggests that dogs do not catch human colds (aka rhinoviruses) because their genetics are not susceptible to the same strings of viruses as humans. Thanks for all the information and good wishes!!! I knew this group would have the answers! And just to be safe I've been kissing Buddybear on the back of the head, lol. |
I would like to know for sure myself. But from my experience, if I am sick Chloe will stick to me like glue, especially if I'm in bed, and she always licks me alot and she has never caught my cold. You could always call your vet and ask them. Hope you feel better soon. |
