Crate Size to fly American Airlines Hi all! I am flying for the first-time with my little one and am worried about the crate size restrictions for American Airlines. Am having a hard time finding a crate smaller than 19x13x9 inches that she can comfortably stand-up in. The one I found is 19x13x10 and am wondering how strict they are about size restrictions. Anyone have any experience? Thanks! |

It's been awhile since we traveled with a pooch on American, but when we did, I don't recall them every checking out the bag closely. Main concern is so that it fits underneath the seat in front of you. You will want to make sure that you have the medical certification with you. Even if they don't check for it on the way out, you don't want to get stuck without it if they ask on the return flight. Also make sure you have some water and wee wee pad(s) along for the little one. One other suggestion, if you can, get a window seat - less distraction for the dog vs. being in the aisle or middle seat. |

Great point...but the middle seat, I have been told, has a little more room under it to more easily accommodate a small dog crate. |
When flying, no one ever checked my carry on or my Yorkie. But, I did get a soft sided carrier. It is easier to push under the seat in front of you. If you have a very nice steward she or he may allow you to take the dog out. They did that for me. But, I was flying first class. That may make a difference. Of course with all the issues going on, I don't even want to fly anymore. I HAVE to fly for Christmas and I am not looking forward to it. |
