Our Sweet Bella Is Gone! 3 Attachment(s) **Our Sweet Bella Is Gone** We went to a new vet a couple of weeks ago that came highly recommended to us to see about Bella's liver issues, and they found she had a large bladder stone, and had PLE: Protein Losing Enteropathy, along with MVD. (Her old vet believed she had a shunt, we were seeking a second opinion)... We opted to let the surgeon there do the bladder stone surgery, and spay her. All went well. We brought her home, and the next day, Bella began displaying signs of Hepatic Encephalopathy. We took her back, and they kept her overnight after they discovered she had gone blind overnight! (and lost her ability to stand on her own and walk, she could only kick her back laegsand scoot with them) It was the saddest thing I have ever seen! We went to see Bella the day before yesterday, and they let us go into a private room with her and spent about an hour holding her, and letting her hear our voices. She was totally blind, and could not stand on her own anymore at all. She was head pressing and vocalizing pretty badly too. The surgeon called me that night at 11:00 pm. Bella has progressed to stage/grade 3 Hepatic Encephalopothy, and had slipped into a coma. Her temp spiked to 107, and the Dr had been there for an hour with a cold water hose trying to get her temp down. The Doc said Bella's heart was barely beating, and she was declining fast. She was afraid to leave her there overnight. Bella passed while I was on the phone with the surgeon. Dr. Greear was kind, and compassionate about the whole situation, but just did not know what else to do. Her diagnosis that night was: "H.E. secondary to anesthesia and surgical constipation" We tried everything we possibly could, to save Bella's life over the past year and a half. Bella's liver just couldn't filter the anesthesia out, The doc said she used the lightest dose of the gentlest drugs she possibly could, and I believe gave her all... We are now left with just over $2000.00 in vet bills and worst of all, our sweet precious Bella is gone forever! Anyone that knows us, knows what she means to us. After a lifetime of wanting Yorkies, Bella was our first one. Her and her little brother Jax gone within 3 months of each other, and both from this terrible genetic disease. Our hearts are broken beyond words. I sent down yesterday to try and make arrangements for the final bills and have her cremated by "Faithful Companion" in Royal Oak, MI. I am completely devastated by this. Jax lived just shy of one year, and Bella, just past her second birthday. I just wanted to share this with you all... My last Photos of her, just before her surgery... Attachment 408368 Attachment 408369 Attachment 408370 |
