Hair size?????? :aimeeyork Is there a good hair lenght? Is it better to have it long or short? Or does it even matter? I just keep seeing diffrent lenghts. I dont think it makes a diffrents butt.......... chany |

Long coat is much more work than a shorter one . My Yorkies have long coats all year round . |
coats i have a standard size yorkie with short hair and i always wandered if she was purebred. is there a short haired yorkie?? :confused: |

There is a difference between a dog with fur and a dog with hair. A dog with fur has a seasonal undercoat which is heavier in the colder months and is shed in warmer months.The fur doesn't grow longer therefore the dog rarely if ever needs an actual haircut A dog with hair does not have an under coat and therefore does not shed but the hair grows and needs to by cut or at least trimmed to keep its shape, A yorkie has hair and does not shed in the usual way. THey do occasionally lose a few hairs just like you do. I keep my dog in what is called a puppy cut(a shorter haircut) because it suits her better. In winter she wears a sweater or a coat for extra warmth. Hope this helps. |

Mine are both long and don't shed....I think you see all sorts of coats because everyone has a preference ...a short coat is MUCH easier to keep up with ! |
Yorkie coats are not suppose to shed - they can however scratch and pull out their coat/hairs. Yorkies with the terrier coat (rough coat) will never grow a long coat, especially on the legs. We see a variety of coats since there are many people that breed and do not know the standard, so they do not know which is correct. Silky correct coats grow the easiest and fastest. Cotton coats can mat easier and is more difficult to grow to floor length, but can with great care and they have a lot of hair - amount/thickness. Wavy coat is not correct either to the standard. * I hope this helps. T. |
how long does it take for a silky coat to grow to the floor? my baby is 8 months old and it's only about half way to the floor? :confused: |
