A sad tale An Off Leash Dog Ruined My Life: A Service Dog’s Story | notes from a dog walker Please use retractable leashes responsibly. That being only when you are in a wide open spacey area and NO OTHER DOGS are around. You basically have zero control over your dog with them. Use them to pkay a game of fetch or to train in the recall command - but never when you are just walking around. |
Makes me so angry when a person with an off-leash dog bolting toward me and my dogs yells, "Don't worry, he's friendly!" Translation: "I have no clue about dogs or how to handle them." :( |
Even though there is a leash law in my neighborhood I always see so many off leash it also makes me angry because I don't know how they will behave. I also don't trust myself with the retractable leash just as the OP posted because I feel like I don't have enough control if I give them too much lead. |
So sad...I won't even walk Ted past my neighbors house after our incident I was so happy my neighbor was out getting mail at the same time so as soon as his dog attacked he got him off. This Boston terrier has terrorized dogs too long so now if I do walk Ted I go the opposite way so I can get a side view of their yard to see if I have to carry Teddy because that dogs never been restrained cuz my hillbilly neighbors don't believe in restraint. Usually on warm days we will go to a safe nature trail where it's like a huge law for leashes and everyone obeys. We've met many rude dogs that looked ready to attack but their owners are knowledgeable enough to follow law and chain them! I've met one good dog on chain and we both continued to hold leash in case something happened! That trail makes me feel safe and I love it |
That story reminds me of the day I punched a dobbie in the nose while it was trying to nip Gucci in the butt again. Honestly, I think it thought Gucci was a toy to be played with. It was an excited nip, not an angry nip in Gucci's bum. I grabbed up Gucci after, dobbie jumped up trying to nip Gucci again while he was in my arms, I clocked the dobbie good! He left, owner and I discussed it, friendly terms. Looking back, in all appearances and actions, the dobbie was friendly, but just too big to play that way with little Gucci and I. He simply got excited. Retractable leashes are great tools, I love using mine, the locks(length) works great. |
