New to forum, worried about cysts Hi everyone, thanks for letting me join this forum. I discovered you when I was Googling about sebacious cysts on Yorkies and quickly found the topic I needed on here! My 8 year old Yorkie, Dylan, started to develop small cysts a couple of years ago and the vet told me they were quite common. This morning though, we noticed that Dylan was licking the one on his front paw and that it was quite red. Will keep an eye on it for the next day or so (it's Saturday anyway so wouldn't get to see a vet until Monday....it's hardly an emergency!) Any advice from anyone in the meantime would be welcome though. :) |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Max has had a few sebaceous cysts or something very similar. I've used warm compresses on them and organic coconut oil. Articles I've read said not to squeeze them. Max's went away on their own. Only one lasted more than a couple weeks. It definitely looked like a whitehead pimple. Always best to have the vet look at any persistent bumps that look irritated or that cause discomfort, or that continue to grow in size or change color. Something on the paw and red, I would likely have the vet take a look to make sure it isn't infected for some other reason. |
Thank you :). I put a warm compress on him last night and it doesn't seem to be bothering him at all today, and it's no longer red...but I'll be keeping a close eye on it (and the others) :) |
No experience with those just wanted to welcome you to the group! (From Arizona) |
Hi and welcome to YT :)! Yup, cysts are quite common in dogs in general. My Marcel gets sebaceous and/or follicular cysts and they're benign. If they get too big, they do need to be surgically removed. I would have the one on the paw looked at since it's bothering him though, bc it could be something else entirely. |
Thank you all for the welcome :) Dylan has an appointment with the vet at the end of the week, so I'll let you know what they say! xx |
